c1910s French Mixed Metal Cubist Nude female- Cello. A fabulous bronze nude female cubist statue with lines of a darker almost copper trim throughout. The sculpture was probably made with a original wax figure then a higher melt point metal strips were embedded to the wax body leaving an exposed strip to catch the wet plaster mold then set into a wet plaster bath the strips embedded into the walls of the plaster mold the wax melted out leaving the stripes , once the bronze was hand poured the strips would melt leaving the two tone colors. This piece seems to be hand sculpted and hand poured since there are a few casting flaws that a foundry would not make. The sculpture is Antique we estimate 100 years so 1910-1920 the marble base is an antique piece of stone that seems to be recycled for this figure. There is natural toning of the bronze as well as a few tiny scuffs leading us to believe this is 100 years old.
The sculpture bears the name "Archipenko Paris "
This may be one of his early hand made pieces that is not contained in the records of his early work .
Any one that knows of his work knows it is VERY forged but only 8-12 images are copied and all over the internet and they are really just unauthorized reproductions of existing works. This is a one of a kind and unlike the reproductions this is a unique piece. selling as is. Size overall 12" bronze h 11" base w 4" bronze w 3.5"
