A dramatic cross section of agatized fossil coral, Florida. The after-coral pseudomorph was created when sediment covered a coral reef. Over time the calcium carbonate skeleton of the coral was replaced by chalcedony, creating the bubbly appearing crystal growth (botryoidal formation). The orange hues on the edges are carnelian agate.

Stunning set of ten Japanese Ya (arrow) Yumi hawk feather and reed arrows with gold gilt lacquer and iron tips. Once used to shoot long distances by long bow primarily before the main introduction of firearms by the Portuguese in 1543. Pair of antique Japanese dolls of a standing onna-bugeisha (female samurai) and her travel companion kneeling at her side, holding her bundled baby. The onna-bugeisha holds a large bow with a quiver of arrows on her back. Both dolls are ornately dressed in silk robes and body armor, with fur shoes and real feather arrows. Each doll has its own wooden box, one of which has Japanese writing on its lid. Late 19th century

Antique Japanese Lacquer arrow (ya) case. Mounted archery was the primary and most respected mode of Japanese warfare until the introduction of firearms in the 16th century.
As a reflection of this, archery equipment was beautifully crafted of formed bamboo, lacquer work, and leather strapping. Decoration of blooming cherry blossoms "sakura fabuki" accented in gold lacquer.

Antique Japanese figure of a Buddhist guardian, possibly Fudo Myoo, the Immovable One, the protector of Buddhism and true Buddhists. His stature, his curls, and his intense eyes are all traditional characteristics of Fudo Myoo. His red coloring is reminiscent of a Nio guardian. He stands on a rocky ground with one hand raised as if shielding his eyes. Carved of wood and painted with mineral pigments and gold. His eyes are painted glass.
