An antique Japanese Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite handles and full moon lock plates. With eight exterior drawers, a pair of sliding doors with split level shelf behind and a hinged security door that hides two additional drawers.

Typically used by a store front merchant who showed pride of ownership by showcasing this Tansu in a prominent area of the store for all customers to see.

Antique Indian bronze figure of Ganesha. Seated on a lotus throne, he holds his prayer beads and ax in two of his four hands. Japanese writing brush in ornate case, case is made of copper with black lacquer and inlaid all over in an ornate pattern with tiny pieces of gold and shell, design of chrysanthemum on hinged ink well cover, 2 sided brush hidden in stem, large shell inlaid cartouch on bottom, beautiful and delicate.

Measures 53" X 37". Overall fair condition with some staining and wear throughout. Red silk ground with blue silk trim. Circa: 19th Century
