Antique Tibetan flint carrying pouch (also mechag or chuck muck), made of leather with plaques of repousse silver with inlaid turquoise front medallion. Motifs of filigree are seen through the silver plating with a pair of diving swallows. The backside of the pouch with heavy studs. The top of the pouch is fitted with a ring for suspending from the wearer's belt.

A framed Indonesian sarong, a long cloth worn as a wrap skirt, finely hand-woven with bands of geometric figures and repeating patterns. Made of warp ikat, with natural dyes of blue, rust, and brown. From the eastern outlier of Lembata Island.

Chinese blue and white porcelain vase, of a tall trumpeted form, with blue underglaze scene of people gathering on the shoreline to gaze upwards at Shoulao soaring on the back of a crane. Shoulao is one of the Three Star Gods of Fortune known as Fu Lu Shou, who represent happiness and prosperity, status and authority and health and longevity. The top and bottom of the vase are incised near the edge with a band of floral scroll motifs.

An antique Japanese Mikuni Gyosho Bako (Peddler's Box) that originates from the Chūbu region of Japan. Made of Keyaki (Zelkova), Hinoki (Cypress), and Kiri (Paulownia) woods. Hand made iron fittings and hardened wooden nails complete this unique piece. Behind the hinged door lies 3 drawers and a storage shelf. The carrying handle atop the chest allowed for easy transport from place to place.

An antique Japanese merchant desk (Choba Tsukue) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Hinoki (Cypress). Beautiful natural burl grain to the drawer fronts. Hand forged iron Hikute handles with 3 drawers to either side balanced by a center drawer.

Merchant desks were an invaluable piece of furniture for any Japanese store. The desk delineated the merchant from the customer allowing him to write business records and receipts.

Chinese fan painting of a stand of bamboo growing near a group of moss-covered rocks. A poem written in the upper right hand corner says: 细竹千竿満地 which translates as "A thousand stalks of slender bamboo cover the ground". The seal is a bit hard to make out but appears to read: 鄭 Zhèng. That character seems to also appear towards the end of the text. The next character after it and in the seal is 名 (míng, 'name'). In the text, the last 2 characters are 学 (xué, 'study') and...

An antique Japanese Chobako (merchant safe-keep box) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood with original hand forged iron hardware. Acquired a beautiful 200+ year old age patina. Hinged door secures 3 drawers behind which lies a secret box located behind the side by side drawers above.

Antique Japanese iron tomyodai Shinto votive candle holder in the form of a hoju (precious jewel). 12 circular rings for candles and one at the very top of the jewel's point. Attached to a stand with four feet and a rectangular tray to catch the wax from melting candles. From a Buddhist temple or Shinto shrine.

Antique pair of bronze candlesticks in the form of two young Chinese boys. Dressed in traditional formal Chinese robes, the children each hold an elaborate two tiered candlestick in the form of porcelain bowls. One boy holds a fan while the other holds the corner of his robe. Elegant and detailed.

Hinged safety door protects 6 drawers that were used for various merchant supplies, valuables and papers. Upper carrying handle used to move piece to various locations.

Antique Japanese kyodai (box with drawers and mirror). Made with burled mulberry wood with intricate grain. The interior is all kiri (paulownia) wood with a wiped lacquer finish inside the drawers. The box has 5 drawers of various sizes for storing personal items. The spandrel under the mirror is carved with a bird flying in front of a full moon and tall grasses. Original beveled glass mirror which swivels up and down.

Antique Indian bronze sculpture of the elephant headed Hindu god Ganesha, known as the Remover of Obstacles. He stands in dance position, a crown on his head and garland of flowers around his shoulders. In four hands he holds his attributes including his goad or ax (cut off all bonds of attachment), a bowl of sweets (the whole world is at your feet and for your asking) and the end of his broken tusk (keep the good, throw away the bad). An antique Japanese Okidoko (low display stand) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) wood. Used in a Tokonoma as a portable display stand atop which decorations like scrolls were hung or flower arrangements were displayed. Drawers were used to store items for display and the interior shelves were used to display seasonal items. All original bronze hardware.

An antique Japanese Kotansu (document chest) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including the unusual side carrying handles which when swiveled up, allowed a wooden pole through it allowing two persons to transport it. One panel with a pavilion in the snow, a figure on a path, tall mountains covered with snow and a persimmon tree bare of leaves and laden with fruit. The other panel shows a red pavilion in the mountains, snow on pine and red maple trees and two figures climbing a stepped path. Both tiles are framed in dark hardwood.

Vintage summer hitoe kimono made of a silk and hemp(asa) weave. It has a beautiful print pattern of orange blossoms and paulowni blossoms in blue/green, yellow, and silver. It would have been worn over the juban, the under robe, which would have been white to bring out the colors of the robe. It measures 61" long 51" wide. Showa period, 1950-1970.

An antique Japanese bronze water pot or ewer decorated and shaped in the style emulating Chinese Shang dynasty bronzes. The tripod leg often is referring to the ding where it was thought that these vessels were used to serve wine. Has a Kanji charactor on base that can be translated to men "to offer". Beautiful bronze offering chalice from India with one large peacock surrounded by four smaller peacocks, bowing their heads in worship to the central bird.
