The hexagonal shaped body has the repeating image of a coiling serpentine dragon with lingzhi clouds of smoke, with inlaid turquoise on each side and touches of gold gilt. This is an antique Japanese tall 2 section kimono tansu that was made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. The finish and the hand made iron fittings are all original to the chest. Behind the sliding doors is a storage area with a split level shelf. Antique Japanese gunbai, war fan belonging to a high ranking samurai officer. Made of lacquered wood with shell inlay and with 2 large cut outs. This fan would have been used to shade from the sun and to signal troops. Though this shape of fan was not used as a weapon, it could have come in very handy in battle and there are legends of samurai heroes fighting with nothing but their war fans. Antique Chinese mirror vanity box made of beautiful heavy hardwood. Inlaid with scenes of birds, flowers, and bamboo. Original brass hardware. The top is hinged and opens up to reveal a vanity mirror. A small cabinet underneath opens up to show a total of 6 small drawers of various sizes. Each door also has a compartment with a sliding panel for access from the top. Mid 19th Century. Very nicely detailed with original finish and condition.
