Japanese small porcelain blue and white water dropper, of a rectangular form with four very short legs. The top of the piece features lingzhi, lotus, and tight scrolling motifs with floral medallions over waves on its sides.

Antique Korean blue and white porcelain water dropper. The large body is rectangular with designs of scholar rock formations and a cherry blossom branch on its top surface in underglaze cobalt blue. Two small frogs serve as air holes adding a whimsical charm to the piece.

Unusual Japanese 2-panel calligraphy screen with highly stylized brushstrokes, bordered with silver leaf and silk. The left character reads "Gi" (or Righteousness); On the right reads "Dao" (the path or way). The inscriptions appear to mean "Righteousness must always be pursued".

Signature of a monk or a priest in his late 70s named Kakuan, appearing to date Spring 1851 with a description of the studio in which the painting was made...

Antique Japanese Buddhist Temple lantern made of gilt copper with a wooden interior armature and iron handle. This six sided lantern is decorated all over with ornate pierced karakusa, scrolling arabesque filigree. Both top and bottom of the lantern have six trapezoidal friezes, each with a three dimensional medallion in it's center depicting alternating crests of blossoms and Buddhist symbols. The interior is lined with it's original paper...

Antique Japanese ikebana (flower arranging) basket, very finely hand-woven with thin strips of bamboo. Its form is narrow towards the mouth of the basket and flutes slightly towards the squared base, with four knot-woven feet, and the frame of the basket is reinforced with thicker bamboo sections, secured with tight coils. The handle is formed by natural Wisteria burl root. With hand inscribed signature on the base.

A very large pair of hardwood transom / temple architectural elements, elaborately carved with charming motifs of squirrels eating from grape vines. The carvings are deeply recessed with raised outside edges of a scrolling form. Realistic grape vines and leaves continue along the underside of each transom. Very heavy. (pictured with a tansu for scale. not included)

Antique Japanese 2-section, 3ft. Mizuya made with Hinoki (cedar) and Sugi (cypress) hardwoods, accented by gorgeous Keyaki (elm) burl wood front panels in a lovely contrast to the frame. Both the upper and lower section house a large central compartment with shelving for the storage of kitchen articles, with 2 and 3 burl front drawers beneath respectively.

Japanese Nanga sumi-e ink scroll painting on silk depicting a scene of two men in a boat entitled "Water Cloud Mountain Pavilion". A scholar and a young man sit in a boat, the scholar has an open book, the young man, a pole. Between them is a handled box. A jagged out cropping of rock rises from the water where stunted trees stretch their branch over the water...

Antique Chinese scroll painting, with Daoist monks, monkeys, and deer underneath a gnarled peach tree. A young Daoist monk holding a bamboo staff outstretches his arms as a helpful monkey drops peaches to him, while an immortal man rests calmly against a tree branch, observing two small deer. The imagery of the deer, the monkeys, and the peaches are representative of prosperity and longevity...

Antique Japanese bronze vase, with two swimming koi fish in high relief. Hand-signed by the artist on its side. Given as a gift in 1964 with special commemorative inscription on foot.

Antique Japanese Noh theatre mask of a young woman, or Onna. Hand-carved cypress wood with katabori chisel mark patina. Her face is hand-painted in dimensional flesh tones, with blackened teeth, red lips, and wisps of hair.

Antique Japanese set of 7 imari plates, with cobalt blue underglaze phoenix motif accented in gilt, surrounded by a network of various flowers, red and gilt emblems, butterflies, and cobalt blue geometric design along the inner rim. The underside features designs of mon with leaves and tassels, and six character mark in the center of the foot.

Japanese antique transom made of keyaki (elm) wood and carved with a scene of Ushiwaka and Benkei battling on Gojo Bridge in Kyoto. The young samurai, Yoshitsune (also known as Ushiwaka-maru) is depicted in an acrobatic pose, leaping over Benkei, the giant wild-man who was intent on stealing Ushiwaka's sword. Another samurai is carved below them, his much smaller form suggesting he is far below the action...

Japanese antique transom made of keyaki (elm) wood and carved with scenes of samurai warriors. On the left hand side, a general gives orders to his troops (small figures carved in the round) partially behind a camp curtain. On the right hand side, another samurai rides a battle horse and raises his weapon high over his head. All around them are pine branches and swirling mist.
