Rare antique Korean small personal stacking chest (ich'ung nong) in two sections plus a stand. Made with multiple woods and brass hardware including butterfly shaped locks and hinges. Old paper on the inside.

An original 18th century Japanese Namban armor with momonari type kabuto. The wisteria meadate and other occurrences of variations of the Fuji mon belongs to the Fujiwara Clans. The meadate matches that of the family crest seen on the armor. The black lacquered dou is textured with crushed oyster shell in fine detail. A Chinese snuff bottle carved from amethyst into a carp fish leaping over waves. The stopper is carved from light green hardstone, possibly fluorite. Provenance: Collection of Howard Kaplan.

Antique Chinese molded porcelain snuff bottle with a deeply modeled design of a phoenix on ones side and a dragon on the other, both on a backdrop of swirling clouds. Glazed a dark cobalt blue. Coral lid. Provenance: Collection of "Jade Collector" Howard Kaplan.

Antique Japanese kura tansu (warehouse storage chest). Made of keyaki (elm) wood with iron hardware. The top portion has a large compartment covered by sliding panels with vertical slats. The bottom portion has another compartment covered by sliding panels with horizontal and vertical slats. Heavy wooden braces for strength on sides and back of chest.

Late Edo Period (1644 - 1868)

A rare antique Japanese kuruma tansu (wheeled chest) originally used for storage. Made out of keyaki (elm) wood with hand forged iron hardware in very good original condition. Large sliding panels open to reveal an open shelf on the right side with a hidden storage area under the shelf. The left hand side has an open shelf with 4 drawers tucked underneath. Symmetrical uniform wooden horizontal bracing on the sides and back of tansu. Gorgeous original finish and patina...

A large Persian textile "Suzani" which literally means "needlework". The cotton cloth is hand-embroidered with complex floral medallions and scrolling work with brightly colored silk thread. These traditional Suzani would be used for headscarves, ottoman covers, prayer mats, wall hangings, and many other uses.

Antique Japanese chirimen (crepe) silk kimono. The fabric is paste resist dyed with fu dogs leaping over a bridge and white chrysanthemum flowers. The interior lining bears a hand-embroidered 3 character signature .

Incredible Antique Japanese kannon biraki tansu (storage chest with hinged doors) made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood with original deep brown lacquer finish. The interior consists of 10 drawers of various sizes made all of kiri (paulownia) wood. Each drawer has a square lock (with key) and warabite shaped drawer pulls. Extensive hand forged iron hardware on the exterior includes 9 hinges on each door, cross bracing and two locks (with key). Original finish and condition...

Chinese yellow soapstone scholar's seal. The stone is carved with scenes of sages and their attendant with landscape ground of mountains, pine trees, and bamboo. The reverse is also carved with a man seated at the edge of water, his finger pointing towards the mountains where a temple roof is partially unobscured. The seal on the base of the soapstone reads "a virtue should be praised".

Japanese antique finely detailed and articulated patinated copper rhinoceros beetle. During the peaceful time of the Meiji Period, samurai armor smiths turned their attention and skill toward making these exquisite creatures. The individually crafted movable parts of this rhinoceros beetle spotlights the skill needed to create the articulation required in a suit of samurai armor. A Japanese Buddhist temple wall carving / transom, with red and gilt lacquer pigments. Carved with the image of an instrument against a ground of heavenly clouds. Professionally framed to be mounted and displayed on the wall.

The top section has sliding panels with horizontal slat over two small interior drawers. The bottom section has a long drawer over another sliding panel compartment also with horizontal slats. Below this is a series of 4 drawers of various sizes and, on the right, a small safe door covering two small interior drawers...

Japanese pair of bronze chicken and rooster, finely cast with detailed bodies. The male rooster is posed with head bent down to peck at the ground while the female hen is posed with head faced forward.

Japanese antique Shibayama inlaid horn vase, decorated with lotuses in a pond with flying cranes and song birds in shell inlay and gold maki-e lacquer. Inscribed with three characters and mounted on a wooden stand decorated w maki-e lacquer and carved design of scrolling vines.
