A Japanese Ko Tansu (personal storage Chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Hinoki (Cypress) woods. Hand made iron fittings and hardened wooden nails were used in the construction of this chest.

Originally used in a Japanese home to store letters, documents, stationary, and small items, its contemporary use as a bedside stand or a side table adds functionality and elegance to any home.

An antique Japanese 2 section tall Isho Tansu (Kimono Chest) made from Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Handmade iron fittings and sliding door handles that feature embossed Paulownia and Chrysanthemums. Side handles were used for transporting this chest.

The 2 sections allows this piece to be used as a stacked set or separated for use in different rooms of the home.

An antique Japanese 2 section Kiri Kasane Tansu (stacked chest on chest) with handmade iron fittings. Bottom section features a hinged door behind which houses 2 small drawers). The top of each lock plate displays a stylized Chrysanthemum while above each handle has a plum blossom Ue Atari (upper handle stopper).

Antique Japanese 2 Section Kiri Kasane (chest on chest) Tansu constructed entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. Two full drawers on top section with 1 full drawer and a smaller drawer with hinged door hiding 2 small drawers on the bottom half. Traditionally used to store kimonos, obis, and textile accessories, its contemporary use includes a dresser drawer, linen cabinet or when separated used as side tables or bedside nightstands...

Antique Japanese large cloisonne vase decorated with a blossoming white hydrangea. Detailed flower petals with pale blue gradated centers and large leaves are rendered with great naturalism and contrast dramatically with a very smooth rose/taupe background. A band just below the mouth of the vase is decorated with a tiny, subtle leaf motif. Silver wire used throughout.

Antique Japanese Choba Tansu (Merchant Chest) constructed of Keyaki (Elm), Hinoki (Cypress) and Kirinoki (Paulownia) woods. Horizontal slates on the sliding doors and sides of the chest make up the traditional design of this piece. It features side pull-up handles, Kakute drawer pulls and rectangular locking plates. Antique Chinese bronze censer in the form of a horse. Gracefully cast with head bent toward the ground, ears forward and with a friendly expression The oval shaped top portion of his saddle is removable and has a pierced design on the seat where the incense smoke would have escaped. This is further emphasized by the cast design of swirling smoke on the horses saddle cloth.

Antique Chinese rectangular bronze censer. Flanked on either side by standing figures of men holding rings and themselves functioning as handles. Each figure is cast in such detail as to highlight long curling hair, beards, and jolly expressions. The men wear flowing robes and jewelry in a manner which suggest they may represent foreigners of some sort...

Antique Japanese small lacquer tebako (accessory box). Rectangular form with rounded edges and decorated with Chrysanthemums on the lid. The whole box is covered inside and out with a dense gold nishiji background. The rim of both the lid and the body of the box are edged in bronze.

Antique pair of small bronze seated Qilin. Cast with heads facing upward and mouths open. Details of scales and striated tails. Each has a single horn. As scholar objects, it is possible that these were once used as scroll weights. Each Qilin stands on an antique carved hardwood stand.

Antique Himalayan tall yak butter lamp. Made of hand hammered copper with gilt bronze applied details depicting Buddhist auspicious symbols. The butter would have melted and burned for a measured amount of time depending on the size and the amount in the lamp. A small hole in the bottom of the cup would have held a sort of wick to provide a long lasting light. Overall repouse details are in great detail. Original patina...

Antique Chinese bronze censer with oval form body, high neck and rounded rectangular mouth. Standing on four feet with heads of mythical creatures. A band with a swirling motif in low relief encircles the middle of the censer. The neck of the censer is also decorated with a wave motif in a band of low relief. The lid is pierced for incense smoke and topped with a sitting Qilin.

17th Century, Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644)

Antique Japanese kannon biraki isho tansu (chest on chest with hinged doors for storing clothing). Made with all keyaki (elm) wood on the front. Sugi (cryptomeria) wood on the sides and top. The top portion of the tansu has hinged doors which open to reveal two large drawers. The bottom section has two large exterior drawers and a safe box with a hinged door in the lower right hand side. Inside the safe box are three small drawers...

Antique Japanese low table made all of carved keyaki (elm) wood. The top is made of a single piece of dramatically grained wood with the edges carved to create a gnarled burl effect. The legs are also made of solid keyaki wood and carved with rounded feet. Original deep orangish red translucent lacquer finish.

Antique Chinese blanc de chine censer of a Qilin. Made of porcelain and glazed white, this Blanc de Chinese piece is from the Fujin Province of China. The Qilin sits on his haunches with his head turned over one shoulder. On the underside of the creature is an opening and two tube-like incense holders for joss (stick) incense. The smoke from the incense would have come up through the nose and open mouth of the Qilin...
