An antique Chinese Lingbi stone (scholar's rock or spirit stone) has a very distinct ring when it is struck. Scholar's rocks are appreciated for their unusual shapes, asymmetry, color and texture. Scholars refer to them as "bones of the earth". It is a carved blackish stone overhang with perforations. It set upon a contemporary Shuozhou style carved rosewood base with 4 rounded feet.

Chinese slab of jade, carved with an indented circular and a mokko (melon) shape into its surface. It is meant to be used by a calligraphy artist for the grinding and collecting of ink. 18th/19th century Size: 1/4" thickness, 3.75" height, 1 and 5/8" width

Chinese antique large pair of heavy carved hardwood plaques inlaid with jade, agate and other semi precious stones, scenes of scholar objects and flower containers with a deep brown lacquer ground, the back of each plaque has characters in gold on a red ground, the frames are carved with flowers and butterflies, heavy bronze hangers, 19th century. Size of each: 55 1/2" high x 36 3/4" wide

Antique stone snuff bottle with detailed carvings of a two young, smiling Chinese boys, huddled around a bottle-gourd with a small bird. The bottle has a topper, carved in the shape of a flower bud. The kanji in front reads "great luck" while the back reads "four joys". 19th century Size: 2.75" tall, 2.25" wide

A scholar taste Chinese Jade ink stone. The stone is a nephrite jade in the form of a flat craggily gonshi stone. The use of the stone, which has inclusions would be used to hold colored ink or water. The reverse side is to grind ink stick. Often scholar objects reflect details from nature and would incorporate them in their study.

Pair of Chinese small stone lions, wonderfully carved with great detail and expression, traces of color, each lion is carved standing on a little stone platform, Ming Dynasty. Size: 7" high x 4" wide x 5 1/2" deep.

A pair of Chinese semi precious stone crafted into a small magnolia tree. The tree is planted in a Chinese cloisonne pot. The container's body has a lovely blue background with abstracted lotus design, old gilt on edges. The entire tree is crafted as if an actual plant is planted in the pots.The cloisonne appears to be late 19th century. The semiprecious stones are of a later vintage. Antique Chinese stone seal. The stone is variegated in color with black, grey, white, and pink colors thorughout. It has a small snail carved on it. There is a small inscription at the bottom, old red pigment from when it was used. It measures 2"5/8" tall 1" deep1.5" wide.

Antique stone carving of Ganesha, the deity, deva, associated with the removal of obstacles. It was carved in the 19th century, acquired in Kathmandu in the 1960s. It measures 2.25" tall, 1"3/8" deep by 2" wide at base.

Chinese cabinet, lacquered all over and inlaid with scenes of beautiful ladies and children in a pavilion garden setting, the sides of the cabinet are also lacquered and inlaid with scenes of birds and flowers, interior has three shelves - the middle shelf has is two drawers built in, the front of the drawers are also decorated to match the front with beautiful lacquer work of scrolling flowers, 19th century. Size: 56 1/4" high x 36 1/4" wide x 17" deep.

Chinese low rectangular table, made of jumu (elm) wood with beautiful dramatic grain, inset with large rectangular piece of dark gray slate carved with design of scholar objects and archaic motifs, stone is protected by glass which is also inset into the table. Size: 19" high x 46 1/4" wide x 30 3/4" deep. (size of table top: 45 3/4" wide x 30" deep.)

Pair of Chinese plaques, made of wood and inlaid with different hardstones with scenes of birds in blossoming branches and bamboo, black lacquer ground, Republic Period. Size of each: 47" high x 27 1/2" wide x 2" deep.

Beautifully carved stone pocket miniature of a dragon in clouds. The dragon writhes in the clouds and seems to be inhaling a vapor. It measures 2.5" long, .25" thick, 1.7" wide. 18th century.

Sculpted from soft white volcanic tuff from central Java of a Majaphit royal princess. Her coiffure is pulled back and topped with a lotus tiara, and she wears a pair of foliated looped earrings. The rendering of her delicate features is very reminiscent to classical Indian sculptures.

Beautiful 18th century black stone schist of vishnu with four arms. The arms hold a flower, a talisman with a 5 point star, a chile, and one hand is open palm outward with a dot in the middle. There are two attendants, one on either side. It measures 20" tall by 10" wide. Has metal base 4" deep.
