Large Japanese two section butsudan (buddhist shrine for household use), black and gold lacquer with red lacquer details, simple black lacquer exterior with reddish brown lacquered hardware, two sets of double doors, interior like temple with intricate gilded eaves and columns, carved with details of fu-dogs, baku, phoenix, and peonies, below is a storage compartment covered by sliding panels decorated with design of peococks in gold lacquer and shell inlay, below a black lacquer offerings shelf is a large drawer designed to look like two small drawers decorated with lotus plants in gold lacquer and also inlaid with shell, the entire shrine sits on a separate base with a large storage compartment covered by simple black and gold lacquer sliding panels, also of note is the exceptionally detailed gilded hardware with raised designs of chrysanthemums. Size: 61 3/4" high x 25" wide (closed) x 21 1/4" deep. 47 1/2" wide when doors are open all the way.
