A wonderful Japanese mounted panel piece depicting a scene from noted legends of Yoshitsune or the Tales of Heike. The image is a portrait of the famous monk warrior, Benke in the Shichi-henge form (form in the style where Benke carries many weapons). The piece is shaped from a hand fan or uchiwa and mounted on a panel with kirigane or cut gold and silver leaf sprinkled on the paper. The painting is similar to works done by the Tosa School, especially during the time of Tosa Mitsuoki (1617-1691). Age: Edo Period (1600-1868). Size: Height: 33.5" Length: 17.75" Width: 1"
