Antique Japanese money box made all of thick keyaki (elm) wood with beautiful grain. Iron hardware includes a large latch for locking the box and large round rivets. The removable money slot has origianl writing underneath - presumably the owner's name or establishment which appears to have changed hands as can be seen in the attempt to erase and rewrite the name. Beautiful dramatic grain wth wonderful rich finish.. Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) Size: 11 3/4" high x 12" wide x 18" deep.
