Japanese 2-section kimono tansu made all of this kiri (paulownia) wood. Original pale finish. Wood is cut so thick and fits together so perfectly that the interior of this piece is air tight. The top portion has sliding panels covering a personal compartment with a shelf and two small drawers on the right and two shelves on the left. One of the small interior drawers has writing on the inside with presumably the maker's name and two keys. Below this is a series of 7 stacked full-width drawers. Drawer pulls and locks are carved of hardwood in a chrysanthemum motif. The entire tansu is edged in a matching hardwood.
