An elegant and fine ink-stone (Shezhou, Anhui) made of carved, dark schist with minor, green-brown inclusions. One “eye.” Two small feet at top end. Fitted and finely carved lid of chicken wing wood (jichimu). The inscription reads: “A treasure from the Zhishi shanfang.” In a Japanese box from the 19th century (with full inscription). China: Qing, probably 18th cent. L 16,5 cm, W 11 cm. Condition: Excellent (small chip in ink-well).

A great stoneware vessel of oblong shape on an elevated foot decorated with all-over tetsu-yu, mottled iron-rust glaze with irregular brush lines in black red and green. A very good quality Annamese dark brown rosewood and mother of pearl inlaid stationary tray for the Scholar’s Table. Rectangular form with raised feet. Decorated with mother of pearl inlays to all four sides with figures in garden setting: rocks, branches, pagodas and bridges, butterflies etc. Nguyen Dynasty Vietnam, 19th Century. Condition: fair. A very rare Phurba ritual dagger of purple zitan wood with three heads of protectors on the top, a central vajra in the handle and the head of a garuda holding the triangular blade. Tibet, 15/16th century. L 28 cm. Condition: Good wear and only a few minor chips.

A fine shoe-shaped - katsugata tea bowl of black Oribe (oribe-kuro chawan), the coarse Mino clay is covered with a thick black glaze, on one side a cartouches featuring irregular strips patterns in iron-brown glaze on creamy ground. Japan, Edo, Meiji period, 19th cent. L 13.5 cm, H 6.5 cm. Condition: Excellent with signs of use and wear.

A bronze figure depicting the City God, (Chinese: Cheng Huang). Cold gilding and rest of coulors. The City God is one of the important Gods of Daoism, he is a kind of guardian deity of the City, a heavenly magistrate responsible for the protection of the territory, the safety and prosperity of the locality. Temples dedicated to Chenghuang were built allover China and annual processions of the God were carried out. Ming Dynasty. H. 29 cm. Condition: Very good, just some wear to gilt.

A rare and beautiful, flattened form bamboo box with cover, probably used as a seal paste or brush washer. It is carved out from the root part of bamboo and nicely polished. Inside the lid a compass (no longer functioning). Qing, 18–19th cent. H 3 cm, D 7,5 cm. Condition: Over-all fine, and really good, old patina, but with small chip to lid.

A large and impressive image of olive-green soapstone (shoushanshi) depicting the demon-catcher Chonggui in martial pose standing above the small image of a seated demon disguised as a Buddhist monk. Extremely fine details. Late Qing Dynasty. H 24 cm. Condition: Excellent.

A beautiful and elegant beige Han Chinese Lady’s silk robe. The beige ground has woven patterns of flowers and butterflies on which different kind of flowers and large butterflies in multicolored silk floss are embroidered. Borders in dark blue bands with embroidered flowers; cuffs in yellow silk ground with embroidered Immortals in garden scenes. Lining in light blue silk. Central frontal opening. Calf-length type: H. 110 cm; W. 144 cm. Qing, 19th cent. Condition: good.

Antique Japanese Lacquer Fubako, a box used to store document. Of deep rectangular shape, decorated with twigs of different flowers, mainly chrysanthemum and morning glory and leaves in gold and silver hira maki-e on a gold nashiji ground. The interior in loose nashiji on black ground. Fitted with two metal mon rings. Size: L 38 x W 7,5 x 8,5 cm. Edo (1603-1868) 19th century. A small, attractive incense table on four legs in classical style with openwork in red Negoro-lacquer with the typical ‘rubbed’ surface to reveal the layer of black lacquer underneath. Japan, late Meiji, c. 1900. H 13.5 cm, W 20 cm, L 26 cm. Condition: Generally good (minor wear and a few, small cracks).

A very interesting and well-carved figure-group (okimono) on a fitted base depicting the ox-herding boy and his ox loaded with fire wood in naturalistic style. The head, hands, feet of the body as well as the leash and the bundle of fire wood carried by the ox have been made from tinted ivory, as has the plaque with the artist’s name. A rare and finely formed dildo/adult sex toy made of semi-transparent, hollowed horn. Below the finely formed head are a series of raised grooves for added stimulation. A beautiful Nashiji (sprinkled gold flakes) ground lacquer Natsume, Tea caddy. It has an elaborate cartouche on the lid in gold makie, gold and silver on a chocolate lacquer background depicting a stylised landscape (mountain, hermitage river and boat). 3 cartouche on the sides in lozenge form in heavy, raised lacquer; one with fishing hut among reeds and half moon; one with fish nets and seagulls and the last with seabirds on raised waves. A real cute, Kawai miniature Kyusu style teapot for green tea with a side handle, made in the tradition of (Otagaki) Rengetsu yaki, from Okasaki production center, Kyoto. Chamotte with a nice craquelure glaze. Size L 10 x h 4 cm. Otagaki Rengetsu (1791–1875) was a Buddhist nun, famous for her calligraphy but also for her production of ceramics for tea appreciation which she would embellish with her poems. Meiji 1868-1912.
