An exceptional and rare Italian cut and voided velvet panel, probably Genovese, done in a dark green on a beige foundation. The motif features mythological animals and urns, all surrounded by foliate scrolls.

The condition is quite fine, even for a textile 250 years younger. The length is 64 1/2", with a width of 10 1/2".

This mark was used from 1845-1863, but the firm existed in one form or another from 1830-1922. The pieces are marked 925, rather than sterling, as this time was the transition between the usage of coin and sterling, without the term sterling being initially used. A Wonderful Ball, Black & Co. American Silver Footed Center Bowl or Compote. J R Wendt is the Probable Silversmith. It is oval in shape with dimensions of 14" in length x 9" deep x 4.5" high. Weight is a heavy 27.9 Troy ounces. It has the Ball, Black & Co. New York mark (Formed in 1851 by William Black and Henry Ball. Became Black, Starr and Frost in 1874) and in a shield it is marked "950/1000 fine". The mark dates from 1851-1874 and the bowl is circa 1860. Excellent condition.

Size: 11,2 cm. tall.

Condition: Choice for the early type, handle possibly reattached, some very thin hairline visible under a glass.

Provenance: The Estate of Carl-Johan Hummeltoft (1958-2020), Birkerød, Denmark. Carl-Johan was a vivid collector and among other areas, he held an impressive collection of early European pottery and metal items.
