An antique Japanese Yonezawa Isho Tansu made of Kuri (Chestnut) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original Urushi lacquer finish and hand forged iron hardware. Lock plates feature the family crest of the original owner with bronze outer circular frames. The handles are of the Warabite style. Five drawers with a security hinged door that hides 2 additional drawers.

This is a Austrian rural style chest, a so called carved " Bauerntruhe " from Styria. Softwood ( pine needle wood ) This piece from about 1750 originaly was only to open from upwards. To make this nice piece more useable for everydays use, there recentely was made 2 doors into the front side of the chest. These 2 doors are not visible, when they are closed. From our European Collection, a fine pair of Louis XVI style giltwood fauteuils a la reine (Queen's Armchairs), last quarter 19th century circa 1875-1895, constructed with a banded upholstered back surmounted by a carved and gilded laurel wreath above a guilloche (braided interlaced ribbon) banding, flanked on both sides by turret motif finials continuing to outset arms on reeded baluster supports, all above a newly upholstered in red fabric shaped seat, raised on tapering legs...

An antique Japanese Kake Suzuribako (aka calligraphy merchant box) made of Kuri (Chestnut) wood. All original finish and hand forged iron hardware. Hinged lid opens to a storage area where an inkstone and Sumi (ink sticks) were kept. The remainder of the top has a slot where coins were inserted to be kept in the upper drawer out of the sight of wondering eyes. Two additional drawers were used to keep calligraphy brushes and Washi paper used for writing...

One of the best back bars ever, this measures almost 12 feet tall and almost 20 feet long! It is made of cherry and walnut burl, American, circa 1880's. There are three leaded glass windows, two as cabinet doors, and one as center top, supported by marble pillars. There are no words to describe this incredible piece, and the pictures really don't do it justice, but you can get an idea. This wonderful bar needs to go into either a fabulous home, or a restaurant or hotel...

In the style of the floral school (rimpa) the decoration represents white and red chrysanthemum (kiku) flowers, treated in gofun, near a fence, on a background of white clouds and gold and silver dust. Period: Meiji. Late 19th century. Dimensions: 367 x H 172 cm.

A fine example of a mid 19th century salesman's sample or doll's chair. This piece is all original, including its red paint and the woven splint seat.

The condition is excellent, with no issues to speak of. 11 1/4" tall, 6 1/2" wide, and 7" deep.

An antique Japanese Tansu chest made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. Original hand forged iron hardware with an age old replacement lock on the bottom drawer. Hirute style drawer handles. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery with hardened wooden nails. With two side Warabite carrying handles.

Used by a merchant to store valuable small items and money.

Early American Chippendale period tall blanket chest. 18th century. Size: 46 1/2 inches high x 41 inches wide x 19 1/8 inches deep. New England origin with a lift top above two faux drawer fronts over three real drawers, and retaining the original snipe hinges. Fancy cut-scroll bracket base and apron. Brass bail handles are replacements. A rare and early tall blanket chest in a blonde finish.

Beautiful solid mahogany partner's desk made by New York cabinet maker R. J. Horner circa 1900. The desk measures 30" tall x 53" wide x 33" deep. It is supported by four exquisite winged griffins who seem to be guarding whomever sits at it. There are two long drawers at the top, one opening at each side. This wonderful desk is in excellent condition and would definitely be the focal point of any room it sits in.

An antique Japanese Gyosho Bako (street peddler's chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia). All original hand forged iron hardware. Hinged door opens to 5 inner drawers of varying sizes where special wares were stored. 4 upper rings were used in conjunction with rope to provide back pack support. Unusual back handle was used to assist in lifting the Tansu onto ones back.

A rare antique Sado Island Kasane Tansu made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite handles and original Urushi lacquer finish. All hardware was custom made with no two matching parts. The locking plates feature many auspicious symbols including Ebisu, Daikoku, the Lion Dancers, a crane, two turtles, a Fu Dog and an old wise man...

Beautiful walnut burl three piece Renaissance Revival bedroom set circa 1880 consisting of bed measuring 64" wide x 80" long x 7'8" tall; marble top washstand measuring 32" wide x 21" deep x 47" tall; marble top dresser measuring 44" wide x 22" deep x 8' tall. Both the bed and dresser have urn finials, and the whole set is in immaculate original condition. The graining of the burl on this set, especially on the bed, is exceptional. All three pieces are a matched set and were always together.
