This is not my area of specialty so I will attempt a best description. The smoking pipe is of Meerschaum, (for the German "sea foam"), actually the mineral sepiolite. Since the 1720's, the mineral, found mostly in Turkey, has been used in the fashioning of ornately carved smoking pipes. The mineral has been described as soft enough to carve yet hard enough to polish. The fad for such smoking implements reached a peak in Victorian times...

Important and very impressive bronze mortar with pestle, European (German?), ca. 1550-1580.

Beautiful Gothic style, with the square handles and lovely chiselled floral decoration. With the original large bronze pestle and both with a terrific dark bronze patina.

Size: Massive apothecary mortar, 15,7 cm. wide and 13 cm. tall, weighing ca. 5 kilograms, incl. the 23 cm. pestle.

This is a great stick featuring three ivory carved monkeys with glass eyes. This stick has great detail and has a monogram on one side that says Henry G. Schwarz 1006 Chestnut St. Phila. PA. Not sure if this refers to a store or a person. The sterling is marked Lyon Maker Sterling. This stick measures 35 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 1 1/4". The handle itself measures 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 1 1/4". The collar is 3/4" and the ferrule is 1".

Offered is a very difficult-to-find grouping of twelve, matching, 19th century, porcelain, apothecary cabinet drawer pulls.

Each pull measures about 2"W x 1 3/4"H x 1 1/2" front to back (not including bolt).

The condition of the pulls is very good with only a few minor manufacturing imperfections that add to the desired patina of an antique of this age and period.

Most of the pulls sport the following, sometimes illegible, maker's mark on the bottom of the knob: "PAT...

Offered for consideration, is a wonderful and rarely found, early 20th century, English, "DENTIST" sign in brass measuring 12 3/4ths inches wide x 7 inches high.

The sign advertises the office of "James H. Groom. Dentist.", and remains in fine condition with rich, deep-toned, original patina and some very minor warping due to its many years of age. The lettering is actually impressed into the surface and is painted black...

Nothing represents the decadence of the early 1900s better than this wonderfully crafted 14 karat yellow gold bonbon spoon. The handle has an elegantly elongated wreath design and the bowl of the spoon has been decoratively pierced by masterful craftsmen of the period. The length of the spoon is 4 5/8” and the width at the widest part is 1 7/8”.

This is a graphic pin cushion from the 1860's in brown, blue and tan star pattern. The back is a egg wash blue linen. It has a nice blue velvet saw tooth edge that goes around the middle of the cushion. It is all hand sewn, a real work of art. It is worn but mellow and nice. It is 8" diameter and is 4" high. A nice surviving example of a Civil War era pin cushion.

An English sterling silver curb link watch chain with an escutcheon shape medal or award fob. The 14 3/8" length antique watchchain has individual lion passant marks and the watch swivel has the company mark of Henry Williamson Ld (known 1895 - ?). Pair of French heavy weight gilt bronze candlesticks with inkwell having banded agate cabochons. The agate stones were carefully cut with white stripe in the center of each stone to give the appearance of an "eye". Dating circa 1840, this desk set is in excellent condition and features a grape pattern. Candlesticks can be used separately when the occasion arises. In excellent condition, candlesticks are 8" high x 3 5/8" diameter. Inkwell measures 4.5" diameter 4.5" high.
