An interesting, small collection of ancient pottery items from a range of cultures, incl. Greece and Rome, 600 BC-200 AD.

The collection consist of:

Covered with a greenish brown glaze. Faint traces of fingertips around the base from dipping the vase into the glaze.

Greek terracotta figurine portraying a nursing woman. Such a depiction is considered a kourotrophor: a protector or nurturer of children. She is wearing a chiton and a veil and she is nurcing a naked boy. Likely Etruscan or Sicilian, ca. 6th-5th. century BC.

Size: c. 16 cm. tall and 8 cm. deep.

Condition: Choice and intact still with most of it's pigment preserved.

The medallion decorated with a Siren seen from the front, she appears between volutes and flower tendrils. The nice head with a polos crown, the full bosom and the wings point to a Siren.

Interesting pottery flute in the shape of a bird. Greek dating to c. 600 BC.

The body is very nicely detailed with naturalistic bird features.

Size: 5,5 cm.

An old collection tag on the base: "No. 000693, v. Hassermann-Jordan Deidesheim."

Condition: A nice fragment with the head missing.

A wonderful and very rare pair of female spectators seated on a bench raising arms as if applauding, Magna Grecia, ca. 4th. century BC.

Mouldmade in redish pottery (terracotta) with fine details.

Size: c. 14 cm. tall.

Condition: Superb for the type and completely intact, with uncleaned sediments and patina.

Black-glazed dish of shallow form with thick wall, comprising a small offset between the rounded lip and the foot. Shallow rounded floor.
Warm brownish gloss with fingermarks around the base, where held during dipping. Black all over with reserved bottom.

Rare Apulian kalathos with cylindrical body widening to a flared mouth. The rim set off by incised grooves, the foot with three rounded ridges. The inside of the base with a red wash.
Decorated with brown glaze shading to black. The finger marks just above the ring foot show that the vessel was dipped into the glaze.
The kalathos is a vase associated to the female sphere and stands for abundance and fertility.

Full cast roe deer with elongated body, the curved neck slightly prone. Pointed tail. The head small and pointed, horns and ears cut out in an X-shape. Thin legs with kinked hooves. Right hind leg broken off.

Beautiful Etruscan votive terracotta head, c. 5th.-4th. cent. BC.

A substantial terractotta in a fine condition and quality.

Size. c. 13 cm. tall and 10 cm. wide.

Condition: Near Extremely fine for the type.

Provenance: Private Collection of Bjørn De Roepstorff, an important Danish castle / mansion collection. The family lived in Italy in the 1970s and bought a few antiquities, like this nice head.
