A scarce Sumerian stamp seal in greenish black stone, Mesopotamia, ca. 4th. millenium BC.

The seal predynastic and very interesting in that it has a double image of animals and a labyrint.

Size: 28 mm. long and 19 mm. wide.

Condition: Choice, fine patina and wear but intact.

Interesting stone stamp seal found in Harran, easternmost Turkey, prior to 1991. Harran was founded as a real city at some point between the 25th and 20th centuries BC, possibly as a merchant colony by Sumerian traders from Ur. Over the course of its early history, Harran rapidly grew into a major Mesopotamian cultural, commercial and religious center.

This seal is engraved with distinctive spoked wheel in the base, so we can date as 3rd.-2nd. millenium BC...

A lovely and rare stamp seal depicting two horned animals mating, West-Mesopotamia, c. 2nd.-1st. mill. BC.

The seal is exceptionally well-carved for the type with a four-side and pierced handle atop of the rectangular base. The stone is even dark green. Rare depiction!

A lovely larger stamp seal of the non-figural Gable type in grey black stone, Ubaid Period of Eastern Anatolia / North-Western Mesopotamia, 4th. millenium BC.

The seal was reportedly found at 'Amúg Ebene' in ancient North-Western Mesopotamia, present day Turkey, close to the ancient city of Antioch.

The seal is carved with a fine symethric motic of triangular forms.
