Gustav Oberländer specialized in early stamp seals from the pre-historic and Dynastic civilizations in the Near East / Mesopotamia, Anatolia and Bactrian.
This is an ancient bronze short sword from Northwestern Iran. It has a choice, predominantly blue patina mottled with green and red. The lower half of the hilt is basically ovoid in hape with a lappet-flanged area on both broad surfaces. Flanged areas often held inlays of wood or bone but a lappet flange of this type was probably a decoration in and of itself. A choice example of a of a large Wadj Sceptre in brown hardstone, with the stone aiming to imitate rolled papyrus.
The scroll is widest at the top, where there is a neck below the faux loop for suspension. The base tapers into a softened point. Such an amulet would have been for ritual buriel.

This is a copper alloy dagger or short sword. It has an interesting patina consisting primarily of light to medium green tones (likely malachite) mottled with red and reddish brown areas (likely copper oxides). There are areas where the deep brown, lightly corroded base metal is still visible and somewhat lustrous.
The entire hilt, including the crescent-shaped pommel, is bordered by a thick and even ridge which would have served to contain the grip scales made of bone, wood, or ivory...
This is a beautiful ancient bronze axe head from Norther Iran ca 1200 BC. It has very thick and flared blades. The socket has a raised ring or ridge around it and underneath both blades are three raised lines cast into the bronze. This is quite an unusual type acquired from a large private collection. It weighs 611 grams and measures 16 cm across. This piece is a must for any ancient weapon collection.
This is a fine ancient Egyptian Scarab, 1200 BC, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 7/16” long (11 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup. The bottom is a scarab pushing up the sun, with cobras on either side.

A heavy hanger, very attractive. The gold is almost pure and around 22 carats or so. The central cross was deliberately erased at one point in antiquity, which could have been done by pagans / romans in the late antiquity.

Fine hand-modeled amphora with ribs on either side of the belly. False cord decoration impressed on the ribs and at the join to the straight neck.
The handles span from the slightly flared mouth to the shoulder. They show notches on top and impressed triangles on the outside.

A group of two authentic deeply formed pottery molds, used to create appliques for larger vessels. The larger of the two measures 4" in length and the interior depth is just under 1". The second measures 3" in length and the interior depth is 1/2". Both molds will come with rubberized molded impressions, as seen in the photos.
