This is a magnificent greyware vase or hu from ancient China. It dates to at least the Han period (209 BC- 220 AD) but is likely from the Warring States period (circa 500 BC). There are soil encrustations and remnants of root fibers on the surface. There are no signs of repair or restoration. There are taotie handles scultped in the clay to mimic ritual bronze vessels of the same period. This was done because often bronze was too expensive so likenesses were made out of pottery...

Chinese painted pottery cocoon jar painted with swirling design with red, blue, and white pigments. The cocoon jar is sometimes called a "duck-egg jar", used as a wine vessel during Han Dynasty.

A Tang Dynasty White Glaze Melon Box with lobed vertically carved lines eminating from the lid. Hair line in the glaze on lid appears to be in the glaze only. Crack in lid from time of manufacture. Height is 3 inches.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Glazed & Painted Pottery Wash Stand & Basin (16th Century)

A pottery model of a wash stand and basin made during the 16th century (c.1550 - 1600). The stand is made from a hard creamy-white pottery and coated in green and golden-yellow glazes that have, in places, acquired a silvery iridescence, a result of very long exposure to moisture. This rare, lovely dish was excavated in Kalimantan together with the superb double Poenix dish # 1071102 also offered in our gallery. A quite small dish with a very attractive deep molded floral decoration, covered with a intensive green Sancai glaze. Late Yuan Dynasty, Quanzhou Kiln of Fujian Province. Diameter : 10,6 cm. Condition : Some small negigible glaze imperfection, no crack, no chip.

A superb quality matching pair of large pottery figures a female attendants, dating to Ming Dynasty, 1400-1500 AD.

The figures are placed on high hexagonal plints and wear a fine two-colour blue and turquoise glazed robe. The unglazed areas have pigmented colors in red, black and white. Finely painted facial details.

The heads are attachable, as often seen on the largest figures from this period.
