The badge dates from early to mid-19th century, and denotes the ninth civil rank symbolized by the bird on the badge - the Paradise Flycatcher. Did not photograph well - faint pinkish lines are from photography and the colors are brighter than they look on the images. This soft pale pink colored antique Chinese silk skirt is from the late 1800's. The traditional floral embroidery is mainly uses satin stitch technique with the large flower in the center of the front and rear panels use Peking knots. In over all excellent condition but the two panel have been stitched together and the waist band has been shortened to accommodate the adjustment. Also the lining has been removed.....

An unused Chinese civil 5th rank silver pheasant (baixian) badge in original paper wrapping. Background is black silk with a border of bats and the “shou” character. Eight Buddhist symbols are featured with the endless knot having been created using the forbidden stitch. Made for the front of a woman's surcoat, this rank badge is in excellent condition, measures 12", and dates late 19th century.

This traditional antique Chinese childs top was made using a fine, deep royal blue damask silk with black silk trim. From a wealthy family, this top was padded for winter use, has all the original frog and monkey fist knot closures, and a hand embroidered rondel with lots of couching and seed stitches (aka forbidden stitch)

Chinese late Qing to early Republic period woman’s informal “xiapei” (vest) decorated at the center front and back with three polychrome silk embroidered floral roundels among scattered flowers all set against a burgundy silk background. The lower section features metal couched diagonal bands of upright water (li shiu) with cresting waves and stylized mountains above. A colorful band of flowers is at the bottom above a blue ribbon band that extends along the edges...

Antique Chinese Pao Tao Peking rug, hand-woven in unusual purple and grey coloration, accented by splashes of bright blue, with a nature scene of a deer beside a flowing river, arching his neck up towards a crane flying overhead. Over the crane hangs the branch of a pine tree with lingzhi mushrooms growing on the trunk. This auspicious imagery of a deer, crane, and pine tree together represents flourishing greens under heaven and on earth and is thought to bring longevity...

Chinese antique wool Pau Tau rug with woven together in a whimsical pictorial composition of a flying crane, deer, and an exaggerated large peony. The Peony is shy and is hiding amongst the craggily rock formation, reminiscent of a Taihu stone. Admits the red sun and swirling clouds, the pine tree stands along, swaying towards the flying crane which is about to land as the prancing deer is on a field of flowers. The overall ground field is blue which graduates from pale blue to indigo...

A rectangular and exceptionally designed top horse saddle rug or seating mat made of wool in knotted pile. Centrally two flying birds, between them quite invisible Chinese characters, bordered by swastika pattern. Lined and edged with different blue fabrics. Condition: faded, few small areas with missing pile (moth damage). Dimension total: 77.5 cm x 62.5 cm.
