A unusually elaborate pottery figure of female Attendant, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD.), dating to late Ming period c. 1550-1650 AD.

The lady wears a large thick robe and has an imposing hairdress. She is wearing a purse front of her chest and is standing on a round plint. She is glazed in tourqouise and dark blue colours.

Nicely painted facial details, careful thick glazing and a fine expression.

This was fired in Guangdong Province and locally, this type is referred to as a “gunpowder” jar although, I don’t know if this was it what it was really used for. Included is a decent wood lid. This oversized vessel, in the form of a "cocoon jar", was made during the Qin Dynasty (221 - 206 BC) or possibly a little earlier during the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC), but even then by the Qin state. It is made from a fairly high-fired fine-grained grey pottery...

The pot is made of hard turned porcelain. The decoration representing stylized flowers and sacred pearls is executed in cobalt blue under cover. The paste is very thin and contains many iron impurities which have turned into small brown spots. The impure cobalt blue reveals small stains in certain places, all these elements as well as the very simple decoration, vigorously traced and the deep blue allow us to think that this is a porcelain made during the reign of Jiajing from the Ming Dynasty...
