A unusual rare black wooden lacquered plate with a three fish design and a little frog. Very unusual to find wooden plates from that period. Age: Ten Kingdoms, 907 - 979 AD Size: Radius: 17cm. Condition: Some dirt incrustation from long burial and small old chips around the rim and one little piece glued on the rim. Overall not bad for the age. See photos.

A Nyonya plate painted with auspicious symbols of a peach, peony and Buddha hand citron. Nyonya wares are over-glaze poly-chrome enameled porcelains made in Jingdezhen in the Kiangsi province of China for the Straits Chinese, or Babas, whose female counterparts are called Nyonyas, hence the term Nyonya ware. 19th century Chinese rootwood carving of an ascetic dancing on the back of a turtle. The figure depicted is that of lohan Lu Ao who lived on the back oh a large turtle for 3 thousand years. Very clever piece beautifully capturing the happy attitude of the advanced being, graceful flow to the natural lines of the root defining his clothes, natural bumps on the surface perfectly imitating torn clothes. 19th century Chinese incense stick holder made out of rootwood in a shape of a buffalo with the front of its body turned to the right. Very clever piece with minimal carving beautifully capturing the essence of the animal, graceful flow to the natural lines of the root. The cage front has enamel scene of a young boy and girl having tea in a field of flowers, with an inscription on the backside. Red four character mark on base.
