Wa-sarasa futonji made of cotton and dyed with pigments. Wa-sarasa is Japanese calico which is first made in Edo period immitating calico from abroad and stencil-resit dye or woodblock print. The product places were Nabeshima (Saga Pref. in Kyushu), Sakai (Osaka), Nagasaki (Kyushu) etc, however it is not clear where this futonji was made. In excellent condition. This is shirushi-Hanten which a firefighter wore. A member of Nu-gumi wore this. The letter of the collar is written as Nu-gumi. The inside is good blue-colored cotton of the natural indigo plant. This is an original yosegire hanjyuban made with plenty of silk katazime and silk fabrics from the Edo period. During the Edo period, silk was very expensive, so kimonos were often made without throwing away even the smallest scraps. This item uses plenty of linen thread as the basting thread. This is impressive kabuki Costume textile of the last part of Edo era.(1800-1867) It is beautiful silk of the dyer's saffron dyeing.
