Antique Japanese light summer kesa (Buddhist Priest's vestment). Made with a sheer layer of black silk embroidered with silver crayfish medallions and lined with white silk.

Often described as a mantel or robe, the kesa is worn draped diagonally over the left shoulder and under the right armpit. Meant as a reminder of the Buddha's own simple patched garment, kesa are formed from many fragments of cloth...

Baby's ceremonial kimono made of asa whose warp and weft are hand-plied. It looks choma (ramie) than taima (hemp), however it is not proven till it is looked by a microscope. Child's or baby's kimono was recycled from adult's and so did this one. It has some stains. The folded seam in the body is unseamed. The second half of the 19th century. 96cm x 115cm

An antique vertical wall hanging made of velvet, partially cut and painted with ink and colors. Beautiful depiction of a watermill in a grove with two peasants. Original brocade border and printed cotton lining with hanging loops. Signed and sealed in the lower left corner. Condition: fine, scarce stained, partially faded, few traces of age. Dimension with border: c. 198 cm x 146 cm.

This is Fukusa of beautiful hand embroidery made in Kyoto in the Edo era.(1800-1867) As for the embroidery, the thread which gold leaf was rolled round is used and is made all by hand. The surface does not have a stain and the damage. And there are a few stains to the lining. It does not stand out. This is embroidery of a lucky bird. Originally it might have been used as 'yutan' (cover for drawers or a chest) with crests, however this one is used for futon cover as it has cotton dusts in the back.
