A beautiful hand painted Uchikake kimono with pine trees and rocks in sumi-e black ink (dye) style, a symbol of winter, New Year and the longevity. The fabric is Shioze silk (thicker than regular silk), not shiney as satin silk. Very well preserved; no stains. It is evenly discolored to a creamy color and still wearable. Circa, late Meiji to early Showa, 1900 to 1940.

This is donza sashiko hanten at the Meiji era. It is sashiko hanten donza that the fishermen's boss in Kurashiki used. It is the valuable one in the market without. A Japanese priest's silk ouhi (Buddhist priest's ritual arm - shoulder covering), the green/gray/black brocade silk with an overall design of cranes, pine, stylized shells, verlaid with white line divisions and asymetric gold thread kikyo (Chinese bell flower) designs, pale pink silk liner. This is Japanese yosegire Patchwork katazome jyuban Rare in Edo period. This jyuban does the patchwork with wonderful fabric such as itajime shiko-shibori katazome boshime yuzen in Edo period. It is very beautiful. There is damage in the part of the wave of the back and the chest. There is a little stain. However, it is very good overall. size:141cm x 123cm (55.5" x 48.4")

Impressing black Raku tea bowl, signed Kichizaemon, of the Raku family.

The signed box is labeled “10th generation”, which means Tan-nyu (1795-1854). It represents true Japanese Chado, made from of one of the most famous potter clans in Japan. Most pieces of Kichizaemon Tan-nyu are hold in museums.

Tan-nyu Raku was born the second son of Ryonyu, he succeeded as the 10th generation Kichizaemon in 1811...

An unusual rhomboid quadrilobed form dish decorated with a landscape of islands with Pagodas within a lake or estuarine setting conceivably a composition based on the “Eight views of the Xiao and the Xiang rivers”, Shosho hakkei. The design produced largely through the use of a stencil with additional applications of wash. The technique of using paper stencils, katagamni zuri, to reproduce patterns was also used at the Nabeshima kiln...

Another beautiful chawan from our familiy collection: square cylinder shaped (hanzutsu) tea bowl made of light, fine, unrefined Mino clay, with a flaring mouth in shape of a half pipe.

Shape and style make it appear contemporary with the late Oribe bowls. The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical black oniita engobe inside and outside - with the exception of the bottom - over which a white, feldspatic Shino glaze has been poured...

This is an absolutely rare black Seto chawan ( setoguro chawan ) from the late Momoyama Period, which means the late 16th century or the changeover from Azuchi Momoyama to early Edo.

Blackish-brown glaze amalgamates with a wild and roughly thrown body. It is very heavy for a tea bowl, almost 500g. Please note that there is also an interesting kiln mark ( watch image number 3 )

Setoguro yaki is high-fired ware that originated in the late 16th century...

This is a horse cover in Edo period. It is very cotton of wonderful tsutsugaki. The touch of cotton is very nice. The wave and the motif of the family crest are very impressive with the rabbit. There is a little small hole. However, the state is very good. This is the one in the Tohoku region. size:127cm50" x 57cm/22.4"

A set of five soba choko, straight sided cups, so called boars mouth cups, decorated with a pattern of a grape vine and a wasp (hachi, bee, wasp or hornet) an autumnal motif. Curiously the grapes have been inverted to resemble the more familiar pomegranate. These would have probably been used for serving sake rather than soba noodles. The cups measure in 8cm diameter and are 6.4cm in height. They are in excellent condition, no cracks, chips or restoration...

A ribbed form bowl decorated in Gold Imari style with an elaborate ground of auspicious kikko-mon containing karahana linked by karakusa with green enamel Peach leaves arranged in the form of a crosses. Inset within the ground are four Peach shaped reserves containing Suisen, Japanese Narcissus, and Botan, Peonies. The well of the bowl is decorated with a Pomegranate, zakuro, painted in underglaze blue and outlined in gilt...

Imari ware porcelain soba choko (soba noodle dipping cups) from the mid-Edo Period (1600-1868.) H.5.5cm(2.2") Dia.7cm(2.6".) This pair features underglaze cobalt blue pattern with two of the three friends of winter; pine and plum (the other being bamboo,) front and back of each cup. Abbreviated brushstrokes give these cups an aesthetic of simple beauty. Soba choko were initially used for small morsels of food, much like mukozuke or ko-zara are used in today's presentation of Japanese cuisine...
