A beautiful example of a Hakeme style bowl, this one quite rare as it was made around 200 years ago by the son of the founder of the Dohachi line of potters. Traditionally decorated using a brush made from rice straw, a white slip is applied to the darker clay body with a wide sweeping stroke to achieve the effect seen here...

Samurai's kaji-haori (jacket), mune-ate (breast pad) and ate (ornament in the back waist) and all pieces have Tomoe kamon (three-way family crest). The ground fabric is not sure, looks mixture of cotton and wool and the lining is cotton European print. There were many massive fires in Edo in 17th and 18th century. Edo government organized the fire prevention system by samurai and then by civilian firefighters (hikeshi) later...

Pair of Twin Circular Screens made from Translucent Jade, with applied Black Jade, White Jade, Nephrite Jade, Agate, Carnelian, Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, Coral and more, carved into multiple compositions of flowering plants on rock formations with hovering butterflies. The carved circular Jade Disks rest on carved wood stands. Each carved jade disk measures 12 inches.

Antique Chinese table screen made of serpentine from the Nangyang region. In two separate pieces: the picture slab of prized serpentine is framed in Huanghuali which sits into a carved frame. Valued for it's undulating natural snake-like layers, this serpentine screen once sat on a scholar's table. There, it could be admired and pondered for it's beauty.

Japanese Antique Kesa Cloth (Buddhist Priest's Vestment) made with prized brocade displaying the crest of the Tokugawa shogunate and framed with a rare purple and gold silk brocade with red accents. The "triple hollyhock" mon belonged to the Tokugawa feudal military government of Edo Japan (1600-1868).

Often described as a mantel or robe, the kesa is worn draped diagonally over the left shoulder and under the right armpit...

Rare Nakamura Donen (1876-1937) Mishima Ware Chawan Bowl with Gold Repair Kintsugi. Nakamura Donen was a famous potter during Meiji-Taisho periods who worked in different styles such as Raku and Mishima. A pair of antique Japanese lacquer presentation processional boxes finished in original Urushi. Constructed of Hinoki (Cypress) wood it was made for both strength and to make it light in weight. The tops each have a hook style hinge on one side and a clasp on the opposite side where a cord or a lock would have kept the contents secure. The interior is lacquered and the floor contains two rings which were used in conjunction with a cord to secure the valuable content from shifting about...

The front side was carved with a high relief of a scholar and his horse under a tree. The back side was carved with a scene of a scholar sitting on a boat. Jadeite stopper and solid silver spoon. Size: 7cm high. Condition: Very good.

1800 - 1850. Each side decorated in iron-red with Zhong Kui, on one main side the bearded, wild-eyed "Demon Queller" is shown dressed as a warrior and brandishing his sword, on the other main side he is shown dressed as a scholar and holding a closed folding-fan in his right hand. Daoguang period. Coral stopper. Size: 6.5 cm high. Condition: very good.
