A Japanese tobacco tray, known as tabako bon in Japanese. The set comes with a hi-ire or the container for the charcoal, two drawers to put tobacco in and a kiseru or bamboo pipe. The tray is done in lacquer emulating the pattern on wood grain, as if the tray was done simply with wood and a light stain. The metal fittings on the handle are decorated with pine and the lid for the hiire is decorate with motif of gourds...

This a Kioto School Netsuke, carved in the 19h century, that depicts a standing Boy, who is carrying a large bag over his shoulder, and is happily eating a piece of Cake. Signed Shoji, on the edge of the boy's robe, in the back. Wonderful mellow patina. Charming and interesting, but seldom seen depiction of Daily life in Japan. Netsuke measures 0.98 inches (2.5cm) wide, and, 2.05 inches (5.2cm) tall...

A fabulous early Meiji era silk fukusa with two cranes, pine trees and the brilliant sun, all symbols of longevity and good fortune. Techniques used to create this wonderful fukusa were yuzen resist dying, sumi-e hand painting, free-hand embroidery, and gold foil couching. The cranes’ crests were created with tiny hand embroidered knots...

19th century finely hand-carved Japanese boxwood netsuke of a muscular blind masseur or Totsuka Beggar crouching and trying to lift his hugely distended scrotum. He is wearing only a fundoshi. Excellent detail and patination; he grimaces as he attempts to lift the large stone. His left eye and teeth are inlaid with light and dark horn. Very nice uneven himotoshi. Signed Hakudosai on a rectangular reserve on the bottom of the netsuke...

Early 19th Century Japanese Netsuke depicting Hotei, one of the Seven Gods of Fortune, the God of Contentment and Happiness, floating on a small boat, with his fan, staff and treasure sack. . Natural himotoshi formed by the space between Hotei’s staff and the edges of the bow of the boat. Stained with dark highlights. Signed Naokazu on the bottom of the boat. Netsuke measures 0.83 inches (2.1cm) wide, 2.30 inches (5.8cm) long, and 1.04 inches (2.6cm) tall...

Small bronze cannon of this type where made for shooting flaming arrows at ships, launching fireworks at festivals, and for signaling purposes. The example of cast bronze with a bore that is described as at the breach and the bore is reduced to a half round section to form a chamber for the powder mount for use. The gun would be imbedded into a wooded block such as the lower half of the barrel and the entire breach end is covered...

A fine late 17th century oval porcelain bowl molded in the form of a chrysanthemum. 6.375" x 5.5" x2", it is decorated sparingly in the Kakiemon palette. Ex-Christie's.

Beautiful Chinese small silk purse, salmon colored silk sewn into intricate raised pattern with metallic thread, silk lining on inside, sewn onto each side is a beautiful carved white jade butterfly 2 3/4" wide. The purse cord is braided metallic thread with three carved linked white jade rings on end. Republic Period (although jade is probably older). Purse is 5 1/2" wide.

Well modeled bronze dog with drum. Detailed paws and face make the dog life like. Meiji period, 1868-1912. It measures 4.25" tall. Cartouche stamped in base.

A Northern Song Yue type celadon carved dish, decorate with carved flower motif covered with green glaze. PERIOD : Zhejiang (yue) Northern Song dynasty (960–1279 AD) MEASUREMENTS: 19.8 cm wide. CONDITION: 3 tiny frits to the rim, no chips, cracks or hairlines and free from restoration.
