Large Komai Mixed Metal Box with Temple & Phoenix Marked, Meiji Period (1868-1912)

The box is 2.25 inches (6 cm) tall, and 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) in length by 4 inches (10 cm) wide.

It is in good condition with no repairs, chips, or cracks, dents, except rubbing and loss of gold, metal oxidation at the inside of the box, and unsecured hinges (as seen in the photos).

A rare iron hanging censer in the shape of a Mongolian Saddle Stirrup (Abumi) with silver mesh lid covering half the top. It comes in an age-darkened and worm-eaten kiri-wood box titled simply Tsuri Koro. The receptacle is 13.5 x 7 x 15 cm (5-1/2 x 3 x 6 inches) and is in excellent condition, dating from the Edo period.

Okimono sculpture in bronze of a crow perched on a tree stump in varnished wood. Its eyes are in shakudo.
In Japan, the crow (karasu) is a symbol of gratitude and family love. It is also considered as the divine messenger of good omen. The Kojiki (713) relates that the crow Yatagarasu guided the mythical founder of Japan, Emperor Jinmu (660-585 BC), on a military campaign to Yamato.

A good bronze bombe form censer with rare figural decoration. The base carries the six character mark of the Ming Xuande Emperor but this item was made much later during either the late 18th or early 19th Centuries (c1790 - 1850). Condition - very good...

A Chinese silver tankard, applied onlaid with a continuous decoration of a phoenix, birds of paradise and storks amongst flowering trees, chrysanthemums and prunus. It has a hammered background, a vacant shield and double-walled interior. The decoration is in high relief, creating a three dimensional sculptural surface and amazingly in an excellent condition. A well-cast bronze figure of a squatting horned demon (oni), dating to the late Edo period. Arms outstretched, as if to grab something (or someone?). Strong, expressive facial features. Measures 4-1/2" in height. Affixed to a custom base, which adds another inch or so, for a total height of just under 6". Traces of pigment.

Chinese antique bronze tripod censer with lid, footed with modeled elephant heads, trunks as feet, pair of elephant head side handles with uplifted trunks, lid with recumbent elephant with garnitures pedestal bowl for handle. Nice dark bronze patina, Fret design on rim, scrolling lotus design on body and reticulated lid.
