The figure with many fine details. A high helmet with decorations, the harness is covered with Green and Yellow Sancai colors. Note the lions on the shoulder and shield. He is wearing a sword in his hand. Pigmented colors in red, white, black of which much remains.

This ancient Egyptian Scarab, c. 1200 BC, is from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 7/16” long (11 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. A Fushina (Fujina) yaki image of the three monkeys made to support the Kettle lid in the Japanese Tea Ceremony dating from the Edo period. A warning to all, the little creatures hear nothing, see nothing and speak nothing. What happens in the tea room, stays in the tea room!
