An unusually artful large stone head of a man looking up to the heavens, Dominican republic, Taino culture, Early Taino, ca. 1000 to 1300 AD.
The sculptural head is unusual with very interesting features with the prolonged back of head, the strongly pronounced eye-sockets and high cheekbones.
A piece of sculptural art worthy of any collection of Pre-Columbian art as well as other collections of beautiful sculptures.

A Veracruz life size head from 600 AD-900 AD. This figure wears a cap with head ornamentation and ear spools. The pupils and mouth are blackened with bitumen. A flesh tone slip covers the head. It is mounted on a stand. In fine conditon althought there is a minor crack on the left cheek.

A superb large example of a hand-built pottery sculpture of a coca chewer (known as a "coquero"), seated upon a four-legged stool.
He sits in an upright pose with bent arms placed on his knees. He has thin legs with broad short feet, and wears a striped sash around his otherwise nude body. The enlarged head features bulging ovoid eyes, a narrow nose, and a horisontal slit as mouth...
Two extremely rare and very attractive figurines from the Manteno culture: An oval shaped vessel with a human face and crossed legs of an animal in front. The face and the mouth of the vessel are framed by dashed lines and a stylized, sitting man with oversized head, 1000-1500 AD.
Wonderful archaic and very artful details. This set is extremely rare; we haven't similar style figures from Manteno in the trade for more than 20 years of dealing!

An attractive larger pottery flute with human bust of a female holding hans to her breasts.

Condition: Intact with minor old lossses.
Provenance: Inger and Ebbe Gotzche Frederiksen, Espergærde, Denmark. The couple lived years in South America, in Ecuador in 1958, Columbia from 1964-1966 and later in 1976 in Peru and Bolivia, and in all of those places they bought the collection. It comes with notes and photos from the collector...
