This is an unusual bronze spear or dagger from ancient Persia (circa 1500 BC). The style is similar to many specimens attributed to the Luristan culture. However, this particular piece has an unusually pronounced guard area, faceted tang, and decorated shaft. The decorations are in the form of linear incisions on the cylindrical portion of the shaft. There is also a prominent midrib in the elegant, leaf-shaped blade. This piece measures 31 cm in length and weighs 190 grams.

Ancient Egyptian artifacts from the Predynastic Period, specifically the Naqada II (Gerzean) era, which dates back to around 3600 - 3150 B.C. The artifact is a hand-carved war mace head made of reddish-brown stone, possibly Breccia. A scarce thinbutted Danish Neolithic silex axe, mid-late 4th mill. BC.

The axe has a rarely seen feature with a carved ring in the middle of the head. Most thinbladed axes doesn't have this kind of fitting, so this specimen must have been fastened to the shaft in a different way than usual. Maybe used as an adze.

Size is 17 cm - 6,7 inches.

A lovely ancient Egyptian Scarab, more than 2,300 years old, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 3/8” long (9.5 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and to help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.

The medallion decorated with a Siren seen from the front, she appears between volutes and flower tendrils. The nice head with a polos crown, the full bosom and the wings point to a Siren.
Jentel calls the figure ‘monstre en rinceau’ (Monster within Scrolls), cf. fig. 143 f. in: Marie-Odile Jentel. Les gutti et les askoi à relief étrusques et apuliens. Leiden 1976.

A large and well-preserved tanged bronze sword, c. 2nd. millenium BC.

The style with the thick mid-rib and two rivets in the corner of the blade is known from the Assyrian period, and the present specimen provincially made around the lands of the Caspian Sea. On this specimen one rivet is still remaining. Very attractive and impressive!

Size: 45 cm.

Condition: Choice - very fine green patina and good metal quality - very few losses and roghness to the edge.
