A beautifully polished ritual hand axe in a mottled green nephrite with lighter inclusions dating to the late Neolithic period, circa 3500-2500BCE. Looking at the piece you can almost gain the impression of looking down at the sea from a great height, with scattered bits of land. A truly beautiful stone. 18C Chinese domed jade plaque carved in low relief with Buddhist auspicious symbols. Color is a whitish pale celadon. It is carved very, very thin with two sets of small holes to the back edge. This may have been attached to clothing or fabric or, perhaps, attached to a large ruyi scepter. Condition is excellent and it is wonderfully translucent. Measures: 4" x 3.25".

This is an authentic example from the Qijia culture, dating to 2100-1600 BCE, of a well-known type of ritual axe, known as a "Yue." It measures 4" in length and 3-3/8" at its widest point (10cm X 8.5cm). This is an authentic archaic Chinese nephrite jade sword fitting, typical of the style of the Han dynasty, which would have been attached to the pommel of a sword. The obverse features an animal, a tiger or a bear, in profile, while the reverse has a six-character inscription, now somewhat worn. The piece is drilled biconically from top to bottom for attachment. It measures 1-1/2" wide by 1-1/4" in height. Depth is approximately 1/2" (4cm X 3cm X 1mm)...

An authentic example of a shape that one only rarely encounters, described by Rawson as "scoop-shaped" in her authoritative book on Chinese jade. A similar example in a darker stone is illustrated at page 115 (illustration 1:1). That piece is described as originating with the "Chahai" culture (Liaoning) and is dated to 4000-3500BC. Rare carnelian bowl with a beautiful deep orange-yellow. The typical Chinese shape is classic, and the capacity is that of a tea bowl. The grinding work is meticulous, the shape is perfect, the Agate has an excellent color which shows shades of color ranging from yellow to orange through transparency. This is a genuine, archaic Chinese nephrite axe or Gui scepter. The surface has the expected smooth, "waxy" feel to it. The end is sharpened (which leads me to think it was made as a prestige axe as opposed to a scepter, although the literature seems to view pieces such as this one as either/both an axe and a Gui scepter; e.g. Rawson in Chinese Jade - I've included photos of the pieces listed there for reference)...
