Beautiful “Cizhou” type black storage jug with lugs probably used for preserved vegetables, circa Ming Dynasty. A very attractive piece with lovely contrasting black and russet glazes, and paraffin patina throughout. Good example what would have been used in an ancient Chinese kitchen. Perfect condition, except for one very small glaze chip inside the mouthrim, noted in last enragement. H: 18.5cm/7.2in and D: 18cm/7.1in.

 

Rare and unusual statue of Vairocana Buddha, wearing diadem and monk's robes, sitting on an elevated lotus throne, his right hand in "abhaya mudra", his left hand resting on his lap, in didactic gesture. The front bottom side of the throne shows two small assistants (maybe Buddha's two companions, Ananda and Kasyapa) in relief, sitting in "regal repose". The back of the throne is incised with a long inscription (datation). Bronze, with fine encrusted green patina...

Diameter approximately 19.5 cm (across handles). Height approximately 8.5 cm. It has few dents. In good condition.

Chinese two-drawer elmwood coffer from Shanxi Province with a dark lacquered original finish and brass drawer pulls. Dates circa 1900. Measures 33"H x 37"W x 23"D. Very good overall condition. There are some losses to the finish and characteristic separations and cracks in the wood. A Chinese reticulated iron porcelain snuff bottle with a dragon and phoenix among clouds beneath key fret and ryui border, neck with a silver rim, jade stopper. The red color is the same as used when decorating porcelain, though in this case it is applied as a solid color. The desired effect is to imitate red cinnabar lacquer. Circa, probably from the Jiaqing period (1796 - 1820). Height 3".

Small Antique Chinese Coromandel screen, 4 panels with scene of children in pavilion setting, inlaid with jade, bone, agate, and mother of pearl on black lacquer ground, details in gold lacquer, Republic Period. Size: 22 1/4" high x 25 1/4" wide x 5/8" thick.

Fine old, three paneled, supplementary weft embroidered wedding blanket from the Zhuang ethnic group Guizhou Province China. Handspun and handwoven cotton thread foundation and silk for the embroidery. The central area is dominated by the “well” “#” pattern, while the border is a combination of the “well” pattern inside a “wanzi” swastika meander. There are few small faded areas but no holes or tears. W: 104cm/40in and L: 140cm/56in.

Very rare antique Sino-Thai solid silver mesh belt with magnificent repousse peony or chrysanthemum flower and flora motif on the buckle and side pieces. Made by a skilled local (Bangkok) Chinese silversmith dating to ca. 1850. Exquisite hand made workmanship and stamped/hallmarked with chinese characters on the inside of the buckle. This type of elegant silver belt was worn by Thai nobility or wealthy ladies in the 19th Century. Practically impossible to find nowadays...

This exciting little piece is a grey pottery urn from the Han Dynasty of ancient China (206 BC - 220 AD). It has a plain but elegant shape with incised line decoration. The surface has light soil encrustations and traces of root fibers from extended burial. There are no signs of repair or restoration. It measures just under 13 cm in height and weighs 618 grams.
