This Chinese wood carving from the Qing Dynasty portrays a seated nobleman. The surface is covered with remains of the original multi layers of lacquer paint. There are no marks on the bottom. Hand carved and only 4 inches high this is a charming piece of old folk art, an artifact from the glory days of old China.
The front side was carved with a high relief of a scholar and his horse under a tree. The back side was carved with a scene of a scholar sitting on a boat. Jadeite stopper and solid silver spoon.
Size: 7cm high.

This antique Chinese silk wall hanging is embroidered with mounted soldiers carrying banners across a mountainous terrain. Silk background fabric with a wide silk border, the tapestry is approx 60 inches tall and 28 inches wide. The fabric is in very good condition. This tapestry conservatively dates to the mid 1800's. While the detail of the embroidery is clearly visible, some of the embroidered threads are abraided and worn, which is typical of a textile of this technique and age.
Well potted with rounded shoulders, the base with an unglazed foot burnt red color, and cover with a small knop, Body and lid covered by the glaze of bright blue-green tone.

It is glazed overall with a semi-transparent brownish-amber glaze with areas of faint purples and reds. Tall Chinese late Qing dynasty Guangxu period baluster form floor vase decorated in underglaze blue against a faintly celadon-gray tinted white background with a phoenix bird standing on rockery among flowers. The design of butterflies and melons is seldom encountered on Chinese porcelain, found only on a few Qianlong pieces. This shaped dish I feel is from the early 19th century but the ‘orange peel’ surface of the porcelain is often found on Qianlong export pieces. Like the Qianlong painted melons these have a pronounced ‘spotting’ in either famille rose or gold enamel on the fruits.
