Extremely rare figure of Buddha in Gilt Silver of a great Kandyan style, Sri Lanka, Kandy district, 18th.-19th. century.

Standing on a modern teak base with his right hand raised in abhaya mudra. Wearing a sanghati draped over his left shoulder with finely carved folds...

A stunning oversized and very elaborate Tibetan silver ewer with gilt brass fittings and decorations, 19th. century AD.

The lavish piece probably a commission for a very wealthy family or a temple. The ewer of fairly high grade hammered silver with elaborate mounts and scroll-work in gilt brass and silver. On the belly two different brass mounts in high relief on one side an elephant monster and on the other side a demon mask with it's tunque out...

Ensemble of vintage and antique temple and animal bells, 19 pieces altogether 2.6kg. These were purchased in Kathmandu in the late 1980s. Please view enlargements for comments, condition and scale.

Antique pair of kapala, Buddhist ritual skull cups made of silver and mixed metal. Each cup stands on a triangular shaped base with repoussé flames and skulls. The cups themselves are rimmed with rows of tiny skulls and have lids with vajra finials. Show ritual use.

A good 19th century Ningxia Region pillar rug with a dragon motif. The woollen rug has a design of a blue winding dragon with open mouth; all around are Buddhist auspicous symbols like the flaming Pearl and clouds. Measurements: L 168 x 62 cm; L 66 x W 24,5 inches. Good condition.

A fine quality smaller bronze figure of Vishnu, South Indian, perhaps Tamil Nadu, c. 18th. century or even earlier.

A cute group of small bronze Erotic sculptures of mainly couples corpulating, India from the 19th. to mid 20th. cent.

Three figures are old and probably from the 19th. century. Great details and quality casting. Another is probably vitange in a brassy metal and primitive. Finally a green patinaed woman and a small guy with a large phallus (7).

Size: Largest figural group is 9,8 cm. long, the other group are 5-7 cm. long, the small guy is 5 cm...

Interesting early brass figure of the reclining Bull Nandi, Southern India, c. 18th. century.

A finely made figure, much older than most we've seen on the market.

19th century very small Indian bronze votive sculpture of Ganesha perched on high base, cast in the state of Maharashtra. Ganesha is the remover of obstacles, and thus is invoked before any new undertaking. He bestows good luck on his worshippers, and is invoked in marriage ceremonies and in some forms of Tantric worship. Nice casting, overall in great condition for a votive piece. Wonderful feel of age produced by obvious signs of wear. Height 1.66 inches.

Unusually small 19th century Indian bronze votive sculpture of Bhudevi with bare breasts and pink lotus (nilotpala) in her right hand. Bhudevi is the consort of Vishnu and personifies the earth. Excellent casting and detailing, modeled with grace and beauty, wonderful brown patina, in excellent condition for a votive piece. Height 1.65 inches.

19th century small Indian bronze votive sculpture of monkey god Hanuman with his hands in praying gesture in front of him, and his tail forming a loop behind him. Hanuman personifies ingenuity and faithfulness - his strength and courage helped Rama to defeat Ravana. Cast in Maharashtra, wonderful casting (see his body in strong S-shaped atibhanga flexion at the waist) and detailing, great patina. Height 2.5 inches.

Attractive bronze figure of Buddha seated on a double Lotus Throne and with a halo behind, Nepalese, c. late 19th.-20th. century.

Size: 25 cm. and quite substantial.

Condition: Good very fine, nice patina and intact copper seal in the base.

Collection of three vintage/antique cloth printing blocks from Tamil Nadu, carved from hard wood (probably Jackwood) all in excellent condition, acquired in India 30 years ago. The haloed Buddha Shakyamuni seated in in meditation posture dhyanasana with his hands folded in his lap and his feet covered by the pleated robe, the folds of the sanghati flowing over both shoulders, revealing the anatomy of his torso, and covering his legs, the wavy hair tied in a bun over the ushnisha, seated on a throne carved with going downwards stylized geometrical pattern...

Fine antique Indian amulet-talisman holder pendant "Patri" from 19th-century Rajasthan, India. It is made of solid, high-quality 900 silver sheet metal in the shape of a heart-shaped box. The design features a pierced and engraved pattern of two peacocks and the Tree of Life, bordered by a scrolling foliate pattern. The bottom of the pendant is adorned with three groups of four elaborate silver beads, while the top is fitted with faceted triple suspension loops...

19th century Indian bronze cast in the state of Orissa. Depicts Lakshmi wearing loincloth and jewelry standing on a lotus base and holding an oil receptacle (was cast separately and now not present) in front of her, and a handle at the back. 18th century Indian bronze candle holder in a shape of a beast with a single horn on its head, could be a lion with mane (and possible vehicle of Durga) or some sort of other mythical creature. Beautiful casting and detailing - see its expressive face with tongue sticking out, tufts of fur on its feet and foliage supporting candle receptacle. Excellent red patina, wonderful feel of age. Height 3.5 inches.

Mid 18th century bronze sitting Guan Yin statue from Nepal. It is 8 ½ inches tall, 5 inches wide and 4 inches deep. A few holes have appeared in the thinner parts of the casting and two fingers are missing. It is in fair condition.

Very well cast 18-19th century bronze Tara from north India or Nepal. It is 10 ½ inches tall and in very good condition.

Large mask, of fierce expression, with protruding forehead and nose, and large, pierced through eyes, nostrils and mouth. The mask is covered with numerous small holes around the eyebrows, under the nose and around the chin, in which animal hair has been inserted and glued with wax. Wood, with dark-brown, sometimes encrusted, patina. Asia, Himalayan Region , 18th century, maybe earlier. Height: 14 1/2" (36 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand which enhances its strange beauty....

Sutra book clasp cast in the shape of an H, with a Tibetan "dorje" (or "vajra") placed horizontally at its center. Square opening at top and bottom for attachment. Bronze, with partly encrusted greenish patina. Tibet, 17th century, maybe earlier. Height: 1 5/8" (4,2 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. Erosion due to great age, otherwise good condition. Note: such implement was used to lock the straps that kept a "sutra" book (a book containing Buddhist texts) closed.

Face mask of almost flat shape, with rectangular protruding forehead, long triangular nose, pierced-through rectangular eyes and mouth. Wood, with fine dark-brown patina. Animal hair has been affixed with black resin, to represent eyebrows, moustache and beard. Old rope still attached to the mask. Himalayas, 19th century, probably even earlier.
