Japanese shigaraki jar, Edo period 17th-18th century, thickly potted, the skin showing the characteristic pock marks and imbedded fieldspar with a natural ash glaze. This jar was originally used to store tea but became desired as an object of mingei beauty due to the tea ceremony aesthetics. It measures 4.5" wide at mouth 21' tall.

Rather unusual 19th century/Meiji period Satsuma ceramic jar with cover, decorated on the outside with figures of 4 Chinese boys at play in different attitudes, all on a dark brown ground. Wonderful quality detailed painting - see fine depiction of their faces and hands, flow of robe lines and rich textile patterns. Very unusual feature of totally enameled background. Raised gold decoration, typical Satsuma earthenware body, beautiful finely crackled glaze...

Very refined covered box in satsuma earthenware. The polychrome decoration of gold and colored enamels represents courtesans walking in a lake landscape. The gold powder border is decorated with stylized chrysanthemums. The interior presents butterflies finely made in polychrome. A signature drawn in gold lacquer, in a cartouche, by Kinkozan. Meiji period (1868-1912). Diameter: 11 cm height: 3.5 cm

This is a signed 8" Satusma vase in the form of a bucket. It is decorated quite nicely with hand painted landsacpes and birds.

Condition: Excellent, no chips, cracks, or repairs.

Late 19th to early 20th century Japanese ceramic brush pot made in raku technique with rich multicolored glaze and an unglazed sector with stylized painting of autumn grasses. Beautifully made, awesome colors produced by raku process. Signed in gold lacquer with 2 characters on the back reading GERAKU. There appear to be characters incised into the body on the bottom, but I am not entirely sure. Unusual piece, pleasant to handle. Height 5 inches, maximum diameter at the top 4 5/8 inches.

19th century Japanese Satsuma belt buckle decorated with blooming peony branches. Wonderful quality painting, generous use of gold enamel, in excellent condition. Size assembled 3 x 1.88 inches.

This an exquisite Satsuma tea jar from Ryozan. The gold work and painting are examples of his best workmanship. The piece is in excellent condition but the original lid is missing and this lid has a repair. It was used to help this great piece display better. Maybe some one out there has a better lid for the great piece. It stands 6 inches tall.

Antique Japanese bush holder made of ceramic with highly raised scenes of fu-dogs, one glazed a buff color, the other blue. They stand with characteristic whimsical expressions on mossy rocks out of which bloom large peony flowers in white and pale pink. There are 5 holes in the top for brushes.
