An unusual low bowl with the primary subject of a Minogame, a symbol of longevity, decorated in somenishikide style in underglaze blue with additional enamels. The three Lobate reserves outlined in underglaze blue with yellow enamels framing an iron red ground inset with an auspicious minogame set against an iron red diaper ground. Each reserve divided by a stylised symmetric floral arrangement of a Poppy flower surrounded with foliage in underglaze blue and gilt detailing...

Large and heavily potted porcelain body, decorated in an nice pale cobalt blue in Shunzui style and with medallions showing flying birds and wild gees, birds sitting on branches, sailboats and Fujiyama mountain. Japan, nineteenth century. Diameter: 42 cm. H : 33 cm. Condition: Broken at one area to the rim. This broken area would be absolutely suitable to ennoble the piece with a most beautiful Kintsugi repair ( Gold lacquer repair, please see the images ).

Sozan spent his life perfecting techniques for celadon production first used in the Souther Song Dynasty as evidenced here with his powdery blue “kinuta” glaze. The bottom of the vessel is unglazed showing the fine porcelain clay and the adjacent glazed foot bears his Imperial Court Artist seal...

An Arita Export porcelain dish decorated with a design based on a Ming Chinese Kraak plate. A pair of Ho-o birds amongst flowers and bursting pomegranates. Arita, circa 1690 - 1720. A similar dish is illustrated in the Shibata Collection, Kyushu Ceramic Museum, item 2495.

The border pattern shows a striking similarity to that used for V.O.C. orders produced at the Hikeoba and Sarugawa kilns. Circa 1680.

Finely drawn chrysanthemums on a field of ivory porcelain. The flowers are placed on the outside and inside edges of one half of the bowl drawing the eye away from the center and giving this piece a unique perspective.

Attractive pair of Arita Polychrome Vases decorated with yellow, green, maroon, black, iron red and gilt enamels. With two scenes of bijin, each on a terrace in a garden setting. Below an underglaze blue chrysanthemum scroll with moulded flowerheads. Japanese L17thC. Height 15.0cm. This captivating bin-kake, or traditional brazier for tea ceremony, is crafted from fine celadon porcelain using methods first perfected in the southern Song Dynasty. The outside is decorated with low-relief Peony flowers which display a vivid sheen, owing mainly to the expert craftsmanship of the Meiji period Imperial Court artist Suwa Sozan who created this wonderful masterpiece...

These dishes have an underglaze blue design of treasure ships (wishes for good fortune). The reverse of each is painted with a stylized wave design encircling the foot and a double gourd mark with two characters is painted on the bases. Acquired in the 1960s from an American collection. There are minor nicks to the glaze on the rims, otherwise good condition – no cracks or repairs.

This is an exquisite antique Japanese Imari porcelain jar and cover from the late 17th century, precisely from the Edo period, circa 1680-1700 AD. The jar is a testament to the unparalleled craftsmanship of the Japanese artisans of the time. The ovoid body of the jar is expertly decorated underglaze with peonies and chrysanthemums in iron red, cobalt blue, and gilt. The decoration seems to be growing out of rockwork, which adds an extra layer of depth and texture to the piece...
