Antique Japanese large indigo Tsutsugaki yogi robe made out of a futon cover, with a paste-resist Kikumon, or Chrysanthemum crest on its back, also called the Imperial Seal of Japan. Tsutsugaki is a technique in which bindings are applied to the cotton threads in any desired pattern and dye is applied over them. The bindings resist the dye, leaving behind patterns in the original color of the threads. The edges of fabric are sewn together using white sashiko stichwork...

Antique Japanese hand-woven indigo cotton fabric, with paste resist Japanese characters in two corners, white thread sashiko stitch patterns of geometric diamonds and fan shapes, white stitched edges, white fabric with grey calligraphy sewn into center of underside with darker indigo patch. This is yusa sorihiki muneate sashiko beautiful textile of the Taisho era. There is all sashiko stitch in it by hand. It does not have a stain and damage and is in a very good state. size:70cm x 14.5cm (27.6" x 5.71")

Early 1900 Japanese silk fukusa featuring a turtle and a crane. Techniques used to create this wonderful fukusa are sumi-e hand painting, yuzen resist dying, some embroidery, and gold foil couching. On the reverse is red rinzu silk with crane and mons motif. Two original tassels are still intact at the bottom. There is a small cluster of tiny gray spots by the crane, see last photo. Otherwise, in very good condition/excellent, it measures 25” wide x 27” high.

A fragment of cotton cloth with tsutsugaki turtle and crane design which is an auspicious motif. The cloth is hand-spun cotton and natural dye. It is probably a fragment of nobori (banner). It has calligraphy in one of the hems, but not readable. In good condition. The first half of the 19th century. 32cm x 74.5cm

A sample book of wa-sarasa (Japanese sarasa) with 106 fragments on 43 sheets of paper board, mostly made in Meiji period (1869～1912) and some from early Taisho period (1910s). Originally it has 45 sheets, but 2 (3rd and 20th) are lost. The dye techniques are katazome (stencil-resist-dye) and print. The book is published by Kyoto Shoin in Showa 42 (1967). The 4th among limited 60 issues. 27cm x 35cm x 5cm.

This Noshime hira-ori silk -kasuri samurai kimono is Edo period(1800-1850). HIra-ori is wonderful beautiful lustrous silk. This kimono is samurai's clothes. When entering the castle, it put it on. It puts on the hakama and the old ceremonial dress on this kimono...

This is the Noren used at the ship merchant's house on the Japan Sea side of the Edo Period. It has Mount Fuji, a merchant ship and a family crest. The merchant ship is stylized. Tall Japanese Boy's Day banner depicting 3 samurai on horseback. Wonderfully dramatic scene with swords drawn and crashing waves on a black ground. Bright colors in paste resist dye on cotton. The top of the banner is decorated with a wood sorrel (katabami) mon. Taisho Period. Size: 23 1/2 feet high x 33 inches wide.

This is a Japanese Nishijin obi made in exceptionally high quality. The obi is old but almost in perfect condition. It is beautiful to look at even without using a magnifying glass. The soft colors have an earth tone and the use of the dyed threads tells us that this is a superior work of Kyoto Nishijin. The scenery is of the mountains of Kyoto but if you look closely, you might notice that there is a foreign look to some of the structures. The size of each structure is 1" to 2.5"...

This is Tsutsugaki Yogi of the indigo dyeing tea service set of the Edo era. The cotton is spun by hand and is very thick. A color of the cloth is deep green. The green dyeing needs a technique higher than the dyeing only for indigo plants. Therefore it is a color required to the item of the upper class. This is Rikushakukanban-kimono used in the Tohoku district for Edo period. This is dyed with the natural indigo plant which thick hemp has good. The cannabis fiber is spun by hand in this respect. Tall Eboshi-shaped fire hood for a samurai, made of hand-spun cotton, both outside and inside, and dyed with vegetable indigo. In Edo period, the town of Edo often suffered from massive fires, so that "machi hikeshi" by town people as well as "samurai hikeshi" were organized. This hood was worn by a samurai together with samurai fire costume when the fire broke out. In good condition except for slight dirt in the top part. The piping is silk. 19th century. W:53cm, L:69cm

This is Edo kasuri child kimono echigo-jyofu Rare. It is wonderful, beautiful kasuri. The motif looks like amaryu (raining dragon). There are a little stain and a small hole. This is Japanese antique Hikeshi Hanten (fireman coat)used in the Edo period.( 1830-1850) of natural indigo dye cotton. It is a very nice cotton hand spun with warm hands. It is drawn with Tsutsugaki and with natural indigo dye. There are slight stains, but they are not noticeable. There is a slight rubbing mark. The state can be worn well. Huge cotton cloth with dynamic and vivid Shishi (lion), peonies, waves and tachibana (citrus) with tsutsugaki (glue resist dye). The tsutsugaki technique is excellent and lines are very smooth and powerful by a prominent craftsperson. Judging from the shape and size, it might have been used for "Shishimai" (lion dance) at the festival, held in Fukui, Toyama or Ishikawa Prefecture. In excellent condition. Meiji period (1969～1912)
