Early 19th century boxwood netsuke of Benkei as yamabushi (a wandering warrior priest) emerging out of a huge horagai (a war trumpet made out of a shell) and blowing into a smaller one, and holding a shakujo (Buddhist priest rattle) in his hand. The tokin (skull cap) on his head is the sign of the yamabushi, and horagai - (a trumpet shell - Charonia Tritonis) were often fitted with a mouthpiece on the thin end, and used as war trumpets...

Antique Japanese pair of Kutani ware porcelain fu-dogs. Each figure is glazed brown with green curling mane and tail. They stand on a yellow and brown glazed rectangular platforms. One has an open mouth while the other has a small horn. Fu-dogs or Foo-lions are fierce protectors but are also playful and energetic.

Antique Japanese carved wooden figure of a fu-dog (fu-lion) guardian. Traces of paint and gold guilt remain. Round in shape and very decorative on a white porcelain base, the decoration, in polychromy of iron red, underglaze blue and gold enamels, represents a lake landscape with boats under sail and a mountainous background in the background. Period: Meiji (1868-1912). Diameter: 31 cm.

Maekake, apron made of Ohmi jofu, which is asa (hemp) with kasuri pattern. Weft kasuri yarns are board-clamp dye, so that both selvedges have bar-code like white lines. All hand-sewn and in excellent condition. It has red cotton belts. Late 19th to early 20th century. W:49cm, L:73cm

Very pretty Satsuma earthenware bowl, round in shape, decorated with gold and polychrome enamels, representing inside the bowl, courtesans and children, in a garden, under maple trees, and near a lake. The kimonos are sumptuous by the thickness of gold used and the finesse of the details. The perimeter represents a meeting of samurai and on the other side courtesans under cherry blossoms. Signed: Kinkozan. Diameter: 12.5 cm, height: 5 cm. Period: Meiji around 1900. + Wooden box.

Very well made, pleasantly thick body, excellent lacquering with fine gold flakes scattered throughout the background, feathers with tiny mother of pearl inlays, wonderful work in Japanese taste, in great condition without any losses.
