This is kome-bukuro (sack of grain)of the patchwork dedicated to the Shinto shrine of Edo period(1830-1868). It is weaving of silk kinran and ginran of Nishijin textile. It is very wonderful and beautiful. There is no stain. There is a rubbed little part. However, it is very excellent. The lining is cotton. All the parts are very wonderful textile. A small Japanese Arita kilns blue and white porcelain sauce dish, or mamezara, of mokko-gata form. Namban (or Nanban, Southern barbarian) decoration of a foreign figure, with dog, falconing in picturesque landscape. Painterly shironuki decoration in the cavetto of cranes flying among clouds. Edo period, Circa 1800. Good condition for its age, with two small chips inside the foot rim and a small glaze abrasion just above the foot rim. About 3 15/16 inches (10 cm) square.

A very fine and unusual square plate. Arita 1790 - 1820. This fits into a group of porcelains that more accurately could be called ’white and blue’ produced at the end of the 18th century and beyond. This plate features exotic figures and an elephant. See the Shibata Collection, item 3831, for an octagonal plate of similar design.

Five-tier inro made of paulownia decorated with a red and black lacquer design of chrysanthemums, with remnants of the original gilding. wood ojime in the shape of a human skull, simple wood netsuke carved in to a circle. Japan, 18th century. Height 3" (7,5 cm). Overall wear due to age, otherwise good condition.

A very fine sometsuke dish of scalloped octalobed form painted with a mon form central motif of a symmetrically arranged pair of leaping carp. Framed by a continuous band of botan karakusa, Peonie lotus scroll, within which are reserves containing, dragons, Ryu, in clouds and a gilt rim, kin-beni. The reverse decorated with hagi-karakusa, vine pattern and a six character mark for the Chinese Emperor Jiajing. The quality of the painting is of the highest standard...

A very unusual dish decorated in somenishiki-de style with a fanciful landscape featuring a Namban figure, a Portuguese perhaps rather than a Dutchman, accompanied by a servant with parasol, walking to and from some sort of compound in the background with a curious barrel shaped tower. The well of the bowl and the exterior decorated in underglaze blue with a Shou symbol, Kotobuki, and three pussy foot Dragons to the exterior of the bowl...

Dating from early-to-mid Edo the shape of this unique Karatsu piece is referred to as a “takadai-zara” in Japanese, or high-footed serving platter. Modeled on similar Korean pieces from the early Joseon Dynasty, the platter was made using coarse, unrefined clay with high iron oxide content. The clay which forms the bowl shows impurities, intentional pitting, and small stones peeking through the clay making for an interesting ceramic landscape...

A small bronze mirror with a diameter of 6.88cm (2.71 inches) and a total length of 12.1cm (4.8 inches) weighing a mere 42gm. Decorated with a Kano school asymmetric composition of a prancing Tiger and Bamboo probably having a common source to similar compositions found on Kakiemon porcelain. The mirror is signed Fujiwara. A very interesting chawan (tea bowl) dating from the Korean Joseon period (Richo in Japanese; 1392-1897). This particular piece appears to date from the 17th or 18th century and comes with a box that looks to have been furnished within the last 100 years. An unusual Arita blue & white porcelain plate, circa 1700 - 1750. A smaller dish with similar moulded and gadrooned edge and border of spiky foliage is in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. FE.66-1970. An identical dish, dated from the first half of the 18th century is kept at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
