Here we present a real old Ko-Karatsu Tenmoku Chawan with a wonderful yobitsugi repair. It dates from the early stages of the Japanese Azushi-Momoyama Period (1573-1603).

A yobitsugi repair is not just a simple repair, it is a recreation by using laquer and some fragments of broken pottery of the same or a similar kiln. The result is a breathtaking consistency of 'landscape' (keshiki)...

A fine Japanese boxwood netsuke carving of a tanuki, peering upwardly while holding a large sake container and a ledger book. He is a trickster spirit and is a highly amusing and popular icon. The netsuke has an expertly detailed carved form with a shell inlay signature on his underside.

This is Noragi used in Shiga area for the Meiji period. The trace which this is a white thread, and was repaired many times is very impressive. As for this, good expression was left by calm good work. This was left until the present age without being canceled. 19th century excellently hand-carved Japanese wood netsuke depicting a Sambaso Dancer, in customary posture , standing on one leg, and garb, to include the mitrelike Okina Hat. He is carrying a Fan on his right hand. Excellent form, expression and bright colors, trademarks of Nagamichi Shuzan. It is signed Shuzan in an irregular reserve on the back of his right leg. Netsuke measures 0.92 inches (2.3cm) wide, and 2.20 inches (5.5cm) tall...

A simple, small but stout iron tsuba. The Myochin line of metal workers were armor makers who also produced tsuba. The simple decoration upper-right here could be a flower head or a snowflake. Udenuki-ana appear lower left. Good condition. Height 2 3/4 inches (69 cm), Width 2 9/16 inches (65 cm), and 6/32 of an inche (5 mm) thick.

Half cylinder shaped (Hanzutsu) tea bowl, thrown from light, coarse Mino clay, with very little inclusions a clay found on earlier Shino bowls. The walls are cut with a potters knife.

The bowl has been covered fully (with the exception of the foot ring) first with an iron bearing engobe (oniita) and after the decoration had been incised with the typical ash and feldspar glaze inside and outside creating the nezumi-shino glaze...

Antique Japanese small tansu chest made for personal use, made all of kiri (Japanese cypress) wood with nice patina and especially nice joinery. This tansu has beautiful copper hardware all over the front including corner bracing, lock plates and moko shaped drawer pulls. One large drawer runs the full width of the top portion of the chest. Below this is a vertical row of three small drawers on the right side and a compartment opened by sliding panels on the left...

Stunning Antique Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) from the Matsumoto Area in Japan. Adorned with a red lacquer Keyaki hardwood frame, along with Keyaki (elm) front panels of a golden honey original finish. Highly functional design with many drawers of various sizes, including an unusual long shallow one below a set of sliding door panels with a shelved interior.

Great original condition with fine details. Meiji period (1868-1912)

This is a finely carved 19th century boxwood netsuke depicting a sleepy Momotaro, a name that means Elder son of the Peach, who is seated as he emerges from the kernel of a giant Peach that rests on top of a tree branch. Awesome detail on this well-rendered miniature sculpture. Age patination has given this piece a well defined dark coloring; more pronounced on the bottom of the netsuke...

Early 19th century, finely hand-carved Japanese boxwood netsuke of a muscular Toad that has placed itself on top of a decaying Well Bucket. Excellent form and detail on this classical representation of the subject. Nails on bucket sides are inlaid in black horn. Chimney himotoshi that starts on the bottom of the bucket, and continues through its middle handle. The very rich patina that this carving has acquired through the ages has given it a dark color tone...

A 16th century Yoshiro Zogan tsuba. The type is named for a Kaga province artist considered to have advanced the late Onin period brass inlay art to that of hira-zogan - flush with the iron surface. The school also took hold in other provinces, most notably Bizen. The mokko-gata form of this tsuba would appear to be uncommon for Yoshiro Zogan tsuba particularly of katana size. Eight ka-mon are inlaid in open work fashion...

Antique Japanese framed floral painting, with silver and gold flake accent clouds, of grape clusters on vines and large leaves, with red chop, possibly by Ogata Korin (1658-1716), Rinpa School.

Ceramic "tenmoku" bowl of classical shape with thick rim and small base. Fine glazing of "hare fur" type, part of which has run down gracefully to the base. An old accident at a small area on the rim has been restored (see last two photos). China, Song Dynasty period. Height: 4,6 cm. Diameter: 10,7 cm.

Beautiful Original Antique Japanese sword tansu, made from Kuri (chestnut) Hardwood. Gorgeous original natural lacquer finish. The two longest drawers have Kiri leaf Mon (emblem) iron locks, with a smaller storage drawer beside them.

Antique Japanese single section Kiri (paulownia) wood tansu, all natural original finish. Very simplistic and functional design. All drawers have iron locks and Hirute style iron handles. Two small drawers in the bottom corner are perfect for storing small valuables.

A beautiful framed work of art, Japanese silk embroidery panel of a pair of Japanese Chin puppies playing with a tasseled floral ball. The imagery is reminiscent of fu dogs, in which the ball represents rule over the world. Hand-embroidered in gorgeously stunning condition, with very high-end and tasteful framework. Late Meiji period (1868-1912)
