Rather unusual 19th century Asakusa school staghorn netsuke of a fly with spread wings on a folded leaf of a lotus plant with stem, root and 2 tiny bulbs by the bottom. For some reason flies are not common in netsuke. Skillfully carved out of chosen matsu (Korean pine wood) inmodified ittobori (one cut) style characteristic of Hida school of netsuke carvers with clever use of wood grain as element of design. Japanese Meiji period bronze censer or pot decorated in high relief with two opposing panels, one featuring Chinese scholars in a pine grove and a second with an old man and child under cherry trees.
