An antique Japanese Ko Tansu (personal storage chest) made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand made iron fittings including the Warabite handles and finish. The front has a natural Kirinoki wood finish while the case was finished in a wiped Urushi lacquer technique. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails.

Unique Zen ink wash painting depicts scroll and bamboo broom representing Kanzan and Jittoku. Kanzan and Jittoku were Zen eccentric monks thought to have lived at a monastery on Mt. DESCRIPTION: A large Japanese Sumida vase with three children in high relief playing on a bridge against the red ribbed body. The neck rim is covered in a rich, thick flambé glaze that runs down the shoulders onto the traditional, cold painted body. This vase is in excellent condition with no chips and very little rubbing...

A signed, matched, pair of Abumi with a geometric design of interwoven maple leafs. The design has been hand chiselled and inlaid with silver and bronze. The stirrups measure 11" long x 5 1/4" wide x 10 1/4" high, and date to the late Edo period. The maker has inlaid his Name and City on both stirrups and this translate as follows: "Made by Yamada Nagamoto living in Kanazawa". Nagamoto is the seventh generation Yamada chiseller to work at Kanazawa, and he was born in 1810...

Antique Japanese tetsubin (kettle for heating water for tea) made of cast iron and decorated with a dragon in swirling clouds. The highly raised design depicts a dragon curling itself around the body of the pot. The clouds over hang in a ledge above the base. There is a large raised cartouche on the back underneath this ridge. The lid is made of bronze.

Antique Japanese framed floral painting, with silver and gold flake accent clouds, of sprouting white lilies, with red chop, possibly by Ogata Korin (1658-1716), Rinpa School.

Six matching pairs of sterling silver salts and pepper shakers, artistically done in the form of the koi (carp or goldfish). The container for the salt is also silver, and the finely ground pepper loads into a threaded hole at the base and comes out of the holes in the mouth and eyes. Each fish measures about 3 1/2" long, and is marked "sterling". The 12 pieces weigh a total of about 11 ounces. The condition is very good with some light tarnish, and two fishes have a small dent in their fore...

Fantastic Meiji Period c.1885 earthenware storage jar from Shigaraki, one of Japan's pottery and cermics centers In Edo (17th, 18th) and Meiji Period 1868-1912. Wood fired in a 'nobori gama' climbing kiln, the natural ash glazes produce startling textures and patterns. The Shigaraki clays have 'choseki' or white stone which means long life. An antique Shigaraki jar created and fired in this famous kiln region of Japan that was heavily potted. The skin shows the characteristic pock marks and imbedded fieldspar with a natural ash glaze.
