Beautiful Chinese antique large black lacquered cabinet, painted with charming scenes of figures in a mountain pavilion setting, the upper portion of the doors are painted with scholar's objects, the edges are painted with Shou symbols and butterflies, the interior of the cabinet has a shelf with two small drawers, early 20th century.

Chinese chair made from precious Zitan (pterocarpus santalinus) wood with a beautiful finish, wicker seat, oriental shapes with dragon heads carved both into the back of the chair and outlining the front and sides of the chair's underside. Dates from the mid 20th century. Very heavy in weight.

A two drawer Japanese box done in a kinji or gold background with fine paintings of pine and flowers with a family crest set in the open areas of the piece. The box has metal fittings for the drawers and a handle to carry the chest. Often lacquer works with family crests were made for dowries for high ranking samurai families. Antique Chinese table, made from huanghuali with a beautiful, glowing grain. Around its sides are carved spirals designs over a large border panel. The front and back panels are carved with the calligraphy symbol for double happiness in between two dragons with clouds of billowing smoke around their bodies and two phoenixes flying on either side. The table's side panels are without dragons but otherwise the same with carved double happiness symbol and smoke detailing...
Antique Japanese carved wooden figure of Shoki the Demon Queller, beautifully carved with billowing robe, covered in gold brocade obi fabric, this is an unusually exquisite version of the commonly smaller and plainer Kimekomi-ningyo. The movement of the drapery and intense facial expression with hand-painted eyes tell of the artistic skill used in the making of this doll. This beautiful vase is a truly Japanese expression of a classical Chinese form. Fashioned after Song Dynasty pieces that are thought to have been introduced in the 9th century from Syria, the fine Kinuta celadon glaze is masterfully recreated by one of the most skilled Kyoto potters of the Meiji period. Unique Japanese antique clay doll, Mingei folk art of Japan, Emperor and
Empress hina dolls (Dairi bina). Clay dolls were made all over Japan by the
late Edo period (1603-1868) by off-season farmers which would often involve
the entire family for extra income. These dolls were for the regular
people
(over 90 percent of the population were farmers then) who could not afford
pretty hina dolls made out of cloth...
A small Hirado porcelain koro with reticulated kagome basket weave panels, salamander form handles, and small scroll feet. Decorated in underglaze blue with floral scrolls and auspicious clouds set against pink and turquoise enamel grounds inset with chrysanthemum motifs enriched with gilding. Dating probably to the late Meji era circa 1880-1910.
The koro and cover are in excellent condition with no chaps, chips or restoration...

Unusual form that is very linear and narrow with fine scrolling Apsaras drapes and the panels on the leg apron with a lingzhi motif (a symbol of longevity and a ruyi scepter, meaning "as you wish".

Antique Chinese hardwood altar table with hand carved lingzhi spiral apron joined in upturned flanges. The feet are spanned by an openwork of hand carved panels with drapery motifs. Original warm finish. Very sturdy, condition consistent with age.

Beautiful Japanese Bonbori lanterns for hina dolls. Hand painted on silk and it is indeed one of a kind. The bonboris are placed on each side of the Emperor and Empress hina dolls during the Hina Matsuri Festival, Girl's Day, in March.
We have not seen this type of lantern until now. The silk is lifted here and there and detached from the frames with some deterioration (probably a reaction to the glue or metal). The amazing thing is how the original colors maintained without fading...
Large Chinese basket, tall stacking carrying basket, made of bamboo with iron handle, three compartments, outfitted with removable glass top so that it may be used as an end table or stand, the basket has a large character on the top and woven patterns on all sides, the tiered basket sits in a large bamboo frame with handle, Republic Period.
