The background is black silk and embroidered with very fine silver foil wrapped over silk threads that are tacked into position with gold silk thread, a technique known as couching. A set of five soba choko, straight sided cups, so called boars mouth cups, decorated with a pattern of a grape vine and a wasp (hachi, bee, wasp or hornet) an autumnal motif. Curiously the grapes have been inverted to resemble the more familiar pomegranate. These would have probably been used for serving sake rather than soba noodles. The cups measure in 8cm diameter and are 6.4cm in height. They are in excellent condition, no cracks, chips or restoration...

A rare Tang dynasty celadon yue ware large bowl with bi shape foot ring, good condition no damage please see picture for detail, size: 15.5 cm diameter.

A curious set of sake cups decorated with auspicious leaping Carp, Koi, amongst water weeds with stylised waves with ao-dama, blue balls decorated with a repeating scale or imbricated wave pattern, seigaiha, painted in a limited palette of just iron red, gilt and underglaze cobalt blue. The base of the cup painted with an overlapping lotus leaf border. The rim of the bowls decorated with a diaper pattern with small reserves containing auspicious lotus flowers...

An armorer's (katshushi) tsuba by Miochin Munekane (signed.) Of smaller size associated with wakizashi. Engraved katakiri-bori flowers and vine decoration (six petals on vine, possibly clematis.) Artist line active between 1818 and 1887. Ex Robert Haynes collection. Good condition. A larger, sukashi tsuba at least by the same line, also signed Miochin Munekane, is in the Brooklyn Museum. 2 9/16 inches (6.5 cm) X 2 3/8 inches (6.1 cm) and 1/8 inch (.4 cm) thick.

A well potted porcelain bowl, covered with a creamy white, crackled glaze and an overglaze enameled decoration with lion and phoenix in red, green and black. Ming Dynasty 17th. century Swatow ware. Remarkable on this bowl is the fact that the rim of the bowl seems to be unglazed, and the base is fully covered with glaze. A very unusual Arita barber’s bowl dating to the second quarter of the 18th century. The oval body is moulded and features butterflies and peonies on a ribbed ground. This form is very likely to have been based on Dutch Delft pottery or perhaps a silver example. The interior is decorated in a rather striking manner with a band of underglaze blue fishes amongst breaking waves. The reverse is decorated with prunus sprigs, and two holes to the foot-rim to allow suspension.

A large Korean celadon glazed stoneware bowl with incised decoration of a pair of stylised birds, presumably Pheonixes or possibly Cranes. The bowl dates to the late 11th or the 12th century. The bowl measures 8 inches in diameter and stands 2.5 inches high at the rim. There is one extremely fine hairline crack to the rim that is scarcely visible to to the naked eye. There are no chips, frits cracks or restoration. Additional images on request.

Chinese porcelain blue and white cup, shaped in resemblance to a Tibetan butter lamp. Adorned with bold and complex designs of lotuses, scrolling vines, and eight Sanskrit characters along the outer sides. The interior design is of an eight petal flowering motif surrounded by double rings. The tall foot flares dramatically with a raised ring near the base of the cup, with motifs of draping pendants. Mark Qianlong (1736-1795).
