This very well carved late 19th century ivory netsuke is 1 ¼” high, 2 ¼” wide and 2“ thick. It depicts an old samurai’s metal helmet decorated with shi-shi (lion) head on top. The helmet is situated on an opened paper fan. There are a dozen mice with inlaid eyes on the helmet playing and chasing each other. It seems that symbols of war and peace, the helmet and the fan, are brought together and put in their place by nibbling mice. The workmanship is just superb...

This is Rikushakukanban-kimono used in the Tohoku district for Edo period. This is dyed with the natural indigo plant which thick hemp has good. The cannabis fiber is spun by hand in this respect. As for this, a big folding fan and rope are expressed in Tsutsugaki. And the rope expressed in Tsutsugaki is active fantastically. A big folding fan and the active rope are very impressive. There is not such a bold design elsewhere. This does not have a stain and a wound. The state is very good...

The two Chinese bamboo root carvings are about 12 inches tall, 5 inches wide and 4 inches thick. They came as a pair but can be displayed separately. They were carved in the late 19th century. Both depict wild geese. Their heads are turned toward a lotus and some unknown plants are behind them. The taller of the two is a little darker. Beside some small cracks and chips they are in fairly good condition.

Antique Japanese pair of Kutani ware porcelain fu-dogs. Each figure is glazed brown with green curling mane and tail. They stand on a yellow and brown glazed rectangular platforms. One has an open mouth while the other has a small horn. Fu-dogs or Foo-lions are fierce protectors but are also playful and energetic.

The cover is delicately and minutely engraved with a scene of figures at leisure in a pavilion surrounding a vacant shield. The sides bear panels of very finely worked flowers with geometric borders. This marine material netsuke of a shishi dog has a wonderful aged patina. Showing inlaid horn eyes and some tight age lines, this piece is in wonderful condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.
