Lock plates feature Sho Chiku Bai (Pine, Bamboo, and Plum Blossom) motif with stylized Chrysanthemum lock knobs. This lovely small woman's purse was made from silk satin fabric and embroidered with silk thread useing the satin stitch. The purse still has the original silk ribbon attached to the bottom, and belt loop attached at the top.

This is a 19th Century finely carved Japanese Netsuke depicting a Rat curiously standing upon a pair of fish, and ferns that are attached to a branch. Beautiful form and meticulous detail. Excellent hairwork on the mouse, and intricacies of the fern. Stained for effect. Very creative use of the objects to outline the large uneven himotoshi. Signed on a leaf, right next to the cord holes.
Netsuke measures 1.85 inches (4.7cm) wide, and 1.05 inches (2.6cm) tall...

Fuji mark inside the foot ring and Mt. Fuji with Fukagawa Sei in underglaze blue inside the cover of the sugar and creamer. About 4 1/4 inches to the finial of the sugar and about 4 inches to the finial of the creamer. Late Meiji or early Taisho. Good condition...
A moulded hexagonal bowl, hakkaku hachi, decorated to the exterior with an iron red ground inset with alternating reserves containing ribbon bound scrolls, makimono, and artemisin leaves, mogusa-ha, two of the Eight Chinese precious objects, Babao, hachitakara, and a band of stylised eight petal flowers, presumably Tessen the clematis flower, with leaves and pine branches...
A rather striking Chinese derived pattern of Shou Lao and the Eight Immortals painted in a wucai, five colour, palette. The central mikomi painted with an amalgam of a Feiyu, Flying fish dragon, and a conventional dragon, rather than a true Feiyu, which would have had a pair of fins and fish tail rather than legs and conventional tail of this example. The border pattern is composed of auspicious cloud and sacred fungus motifs linked by a Karakusa arabesque...
Antique Chinese purple hued agate censor. The base and lid are carved with a scrolling foliate design on two oblong registers. The base has bird-like head handles with loose rings. The censor has scrolling foliate handles with loose rings. The top has simple vine like handles with loose rings. The lid is topped with a dragon. The agate has natural white and yellow/brown inclusions. It measures 15.5" tall, the base measures 8" tall, the top 7.75" tall.
Antique Tibetan Buddhist ritualistic bone flute, or kangling. The kangling produces a wailing sound, meant to create a mystical atmosphere during tantric rituals. It is played as a gesture of fearlessness and as a way of cutting off the ego. With silver mounts intricately decorated with floral motifs and inlaid with coral. Late Qing Dynasty (1890s to 1911) Chinese soapstone seal carved on the top with a crouching chimera with a single horn and bifurcated tail exhaling a cloud of vapor. First catalogue photo includes the image of the printing surface flipped left to right to show what the imprint of the seal will look like. Late 18th to early 19th century Kyoto school netsuke of a puppy wearing a cloth collar, playing with an abalone shell. Strong early piece with amazingly lifelike facial expression and wonderful fur texture worn on protruding parts. Pleasantly chunky, eyes are inlaid with black horn, old stable age lines, wonderful wear and patina turning honey color on the bottom. Deep himotoshi in accordance with the habit of the time. Excellent strong netsuke. Length 2 1/16 inches.
