Antique tansu made from kiri wood, with heavy iron hardware, kakute shaped drawer handles, a locking bar to keep the three middle drawers secure, iron locks with flower design on two bottom drawers, one small and one large, and one small drawer with a kan or ring-shaped drawer pull. Meiji age c1880.

Chinese Canton Enamel Small Plate decorated with a stylised Lotus scroll. The reverse with fruit and flowers. Gilt rim and foot. 18thC. Dia. 7 1/4" (18.5cm). Condition: usual stress lines, small chip 0.5cm to rim, slight wear to gilding.

Late Meiji (1890s to 1912) small Japanese bronze vase with gold, silver and copper inlays depiction a long-tailed rooster on a flowering cherry branch. Excellent crisp work, perfectly captured posture of the creature, beautifully carved and inlaid, a few darker spots, overall in great condition. Signed KOSHU (alternative reading is Mitsufune) on the back. Height 4 5/8 inches.
A lovely little Chinese bronze belthook, dating to early Han Period, ca. 200 BC-9 AD.
The belthook decorated with scrollwork on the front and has a central knob on the back. Wonderful azurite blue and green patina.

This large and heavy bronze vase has thick walls and prominent relief decoration overall, including crests on the central portion of the body. The form is in the archaistic Chinese style with motifs adapted to Japanese taste. It retains its old yellowish-brown patina which darkens on the interior. A Japanese silk oohi (Buddhist priest's ritual shoulder covering), deep salmon pink brocade silk with an overall design of overlapping fan shaped panels and snowflakes interspersed with daisies and Chinese bell flowers, etc; internal corners with Japanese symbols on a white ground. The ties and liner are green silk. Meiji period. Dimensions - 12 1/2" x 58 1/2".

Antique Japanese tansu from the Nigata area of Japan. Most likely used by a merchant for storage. The 9 drawers are in three rows with the shallowest drawers along the top and gradually getting deeper toward the bottom of the chest. The hardware is all of iron and includes elegant hirute shaped drawer pulls, fan shaped lock plates and corner bracing. The wood is paulownia (kiri) wood.
